I think the NIL policy has to have incentives built into it in order for more people to invest in any NIL opportunity company. I am not going to throw my money away on a 175-pound unproven commodity. My eight-year-old grandson is 5 feet and about 90 pounds. Can I get millions for his signature also? Throw 20 touchdown passes your freshman year while maintaining a 5 to 1 TD to INT ratio, and we can start earning Gator dollars. Other than that, all we are doing is creating people who are going to coast two years and do just enough to make it to the combines.

AND …it’s within the SEC footprint. It doesn’t exactly feel like the other side of the world like Pacific coast.

I agree. We have three Heisman QBs in our history. He obviously did not want to be the 4th. Let him go to Colorado where they have one Heisman winner in 30 years and think that because a coach can win in the HBCUs that he is going to tear up Division 1 football. Deon will get a dose of reality. He is probably the greatest athlete to ever play in the NFL, but no matter how many 5-stars he recruits to Colorado, they are not going to be Deons.

Agreed....but you sure love to throw around that "greatest" moniker. I don't think Deion would be in the Top-5 greatest players for the Cowboys...much less the NFL.

Do you have any factual information that says that Rashada is to blame for this?

Honestly, all the speculation and innuendo that I've heard is that our side put together a deal with him that wasn't authorized or backed up.

ESPN article says Rashada could file a lawsuit agaisnt both the third party and the UF Athletic Department.

I wonder what legal grounds that stands on since UF cannot control what a third party does.

Rashada, his dad, their agent, somebody seems very money hungry. Hope they just let the kid play ball.

To hell with California. Six hours north of Gainesville lies a ton of talent in the state of GA. The last 6 or 7 QBs to win a college national championship played high school ball in GA.

Dabo and Saban recruit GA hard.

The only source in the entire article is an anonymous source who spoke to a rep from the AP. The AP rep was probably Mark Long. Long probably followed up with G. Allan Taylor from The Athletic who ran the original story. There is not multiple sources, there is probably just one. And that one person is Darren Heitner. That's just my guess. He represents JTM Sports who represents Rashada.

They had details about who actually signed the contract, but had to print a retraction when one of the people (a lawyer) who supposedly signed it never did. If the source is, indeed, Heitner, who also reportedly had a $300K payment in the contract, then he had an incentive to exaggerate the amount and an incentive to apply pressure to UF's side.

Either way, NIL stands for "name, image, and likeness".

The contract was 'signed' on November 11th, 2022. That's a week over two months (67 days). In that time, Rashada never provided any NIL, and the money was apparently never exchanged.

Now he has to prove damages over the past 2 months?

A couple of options for that (I am not a lawyer)
    • He spent money traveling/moving to Florida
    • He suffered emotionally
    • He purchased a non-refundable "something" that depends on the money being there, based on a loan (?)
    • He passed up an exclusive deal with another NIL team
    • Insert some other lawyer thing
This isn't pay-for-play. The NCAA made that clear.

On the first item, UF pays for all that. If anyone could sue, it would be UF to recover those costs and all the costs associated with housing and enrollment. Not sure how UF would be on the hook for anything.

As to the other items, he can still sign an NIL with another group now. A loss of two-months of perceived income isn't a strong argument. Whatever he bought is less expensive than the lawyers he would have to hire to recover anything from an organization that already said they're out of money LOL

UF seems to be doing "just OK" in the transfer portal, some decent pickups but we seem to be in that 15 - 20 range. Given Rashadas situation UF will now drop somewhere between 15 - 20 in the most recent services HS recruiting cycle also IMO.

Howard does not appear to be a viable QB alternative in terms of UF landing him.

We have what - something like 35 guys that have left or leaving the program already?

Offensive line is now a total rebuild although the transfer portal has helped, but until that group gets on the field and creates chemistry it's hard to say if they will be as good as the 22 line. I suspect NOT, 213 YPG rushing and decent QB protection will be difficult to replicate with what they have IMO.
    Torrance will be missed.

We all better hope that the UF makes a quantum leap in defense and special teams IMO or we are back in 6-6 or worse mode next year.

we were/are gonna be a 5-8 win team no matter what we did in the portal. Give it time. Lets see how things are in April after the spring practices and games have been played and the last wave of portal movement happens
