    Before being deported, immigrants convicted of a felony need to serve time for their crime. The majority of the 13,000 are likely serving their sentences. Or, if their sentence is complete, they would be deported.

    Only time they would not be deported is if a country refused to take them back. China is one such country. How many of the 13k fit this? Don't know. That wasn't the question ICE was responding to.

    I also don't respond to fear porn. Immigrants are far less likely to commit felony crime than citizens. Meanwhile, we have about 8 million in our work force, including 1 million in agriculture, 1 million in construction, 1 million in food/service industry, and 5 million more across other verticals. The cost of mass deportation would be hundred of millions, while causing a massive drop in GDP, while prices rise due to massive labor shortages.

    While no system is ever perfect, a better solution would be an expanded guest worker program that allows needed labor supply to meet demand, while tracking who is in the country. Nobody with a felony conviction should be allowed in or stay.
