I have to wonder why a five star big guy would think Mike White is the ticket. Am I missing something or did Mike White reach out to georgia while he was the coach here?
I understand what you're saying and I assume it's in the context of leaving for another college job. I certainly pull for Coach Donovan in the pros and I pulled for SOS in the NFL and even at USC. Never, ever would I pull for a coach that willingly left UF for uga or fsu though.
Id say with the portal, there is now no excuse to be “awful” or to have to write it off. Although I’m prepared to see another bubble-ish team depending on what the roster does finally look like. In a strange way, if he can keep this class together and add some other pieces, I’d be more inclined to accept growing pains if we were playing lots of young guys, and then maybe add a nice piece in his 2023 class and build it that way. Maybe a key transfer piece here and there depending on what the biggest “need” is. The problem with White was he never appeared to be building anything. Literally none of his recruits worked out (did he graduate a single 4 year senior???). He had a couple guys drafted, so it’s not like we was churning out draft picks either. His final year was totally reliant on transfers. While I see the transfer portal as a useful tool for filling holes, obviously I want to see Golden building teams the right way. By having groups of players that stick together (and learn how to play together) 2,3,4 years. So with that in mind, I just want to see us get better from years 1 to 3, and hopefully at least have us believing we can compete for something.
High expectation here have lead to short-term solutions that provide little basis to build an enduring program. Most times what you help build is what you deserve. I tire of laments of our victims. Let's hope this new guy sees the long- term solution.
“This all happened so quickly,” Boyle said. “Malik was kind of stunned by it. He just wants to be able to talk to other people and weigh his options.”
Really helped BD that he had a talent at that level coming to Florida. And his style of play was very appealing to HS kids.
"Boyle said Reneau met new UF coach Todd Golden for the first time on Tuesday and indicated that Golden is striving to convince the 6-foot-8 power player that his signing with the school last November was a good idea."
Who knows, he could have a stellar second year then fade(see Dan Mullen). But also, if true a tenure can be defined by second year we would have known for the past five seasons Mike White was a gonner. Anyway... here's hoping our program is on the rise and georgia's remains mediocre. At least, they hired the right guy for that.
I'm not talking about UGA helping us in the standings, I'm talking about the posters running around NBN in glee that we lost a recruit because it makes the new guy look bad and their buddy look good. Also if all things are equal we should ALWAYS root for Georgia to lose...Georgia sucks
Against UK in basketball and Bama in football I make exceptions. But I need to take shower afterward.
Have not seen one post where someone was happy we lost recruit, and wanted new coach to look bad. Must have missed it. I like White but sure don't want to lose any recruit to him ever.
Expectations have nothing to do with a coach choosing to build a team for the short term and not for sustained success. A coach is hired to build the team and should embrace high expectations!
Got it. JWill did have to sit out a year and then played only 17 games the following year before getting tossed. If he had played the entire 2nd season, we might have been an NCAA tournament team, but it didn’t happen.
Not sure guys are gleeful we lost a recruit, but a few people were certainly wanting us to lose down the stretch.
