Need DT’s next year. For overall health and actual growth of program gotta win 8 next year. 6-6 not acceptable and gotta show progress. Losing starting OL to portal very concerning
I’m also not as concerned about DT because UF doesn’t run with two DT’s on the field all the time. You have to take into account some of the lineman who have some positional flexibility like Justus Boone, Sapp, etc. Also guys like Kamran James and Kelby Collins will play multiple spots. If Collins is 6-5 280 now before getting into a college strength program odds are he’ll easily get to 295-300 by his second year. He and Kamran James are built similar to Dexter was and will likely be used in a similar manner
Hopefully some others jump in after bowl games because the pool is currently very shallow, top guys already gone. Gators ranked 30, Miami and FSU top ten....need some New Year magic....
Boone, Sapp, etc. should never be on the field at DT unless it is 3rd and long. We had enough trouble stopping the run with Dexter and Watson on the field. We need big boys now....not in a couple of years. Unless, of course, you think McClellan and Watson can play 70 snaps a game in 2023.
Those numbers at dt are an injury away from oh shit. You are also counting a true freshly which may or may not be fine. Same with lb, four is fine but if one goes down, who is next. It’s also uncertain if we have even one elite player in either of those groups. There are a handful that potentially could be differences makers but none proven to be. That front seven is lacking depth and has no proven gamechangers. I like the group but they could both use a transfer or two.
I think too much of that is looking at size, speed, etc. Skillset is what matters as to what position a guy plays.being a qb, cb, or mlb has nothing to do with looking at a guys physique and deciding he should play a position. That’s some dumb shit that gets coaches in trouble.
This really sucks. They didn’t look good in the bowl but cohesiveness is just as important as talent when I comes to a line. Having only one starter back is going to be a mess even if we can somehow add some talent.
Like it or not, size at a lot of positions matter. Nobody is signing that scrappy, undersized 6-0 225 HS DT that regularly destroys opposing HS OL's because of his quickness and motor unless they think they can convert him to LB.
Agreed. Everyone of those guys except Torrance had played together for at least a year. Right now we have Eguakan, Barber and Leonard for 2023 and who the heck else?
Yep, truly no way to replace them. Waites for Tarquin it’s not an even swap and we don’t have two guards to replace Torrance and white, only one in Leonard
And we've seen him on the field getting blown up regularly by DT's. He might be scrappy, but he is just too small to play OG in the rough and tumble SEC.
Agreed, they need the body type and speed but you can’t make Carl Lewis into a wide receiver just because he can run fast.
You have to have both. Taking rush ends that is a specific skillset and thinking he can be a mlb most often does not work. There is usually a big reason by the highschool level that a kid is playing a certain position.
