I've seen other reports with New Jersey in the top 5 losers and Florida flip flopped over Texas.

Find a few of these reports and I don't think it difficult to establish trends.

On a city basis, I saw reported somewhere today that it was in the housing report released last week that San Francisco and Tampa have been the biggest loser and winner so far this year.

 

No, you weren't. You were talking about population changes. Domestic movement does not equal population changes. Again, the top two states that saw population declines are two of the most red states in the country in Mississippi and West Virginia. In fact, economic vitality is a pretty strong predictor of Democratic vote share.

I'm sorry, but you are choosing to disagree with facts. You talked about population loss. New Jersey gained population during the last Census. So to claim that they experienced population loss is just false.
