Recruiting review: Mullen’s bump class of 2019

Great academics and great personality....he'll be fine

 

Funny that our lowest rated recruit ended up being one of the best 5-7 guys in the class.
I'm speaking of Ethan White of course.

He's gone now, but if everyone in the class did as well as White, we'd have been better than our record the last 2 years.

 

I know everyone went crazy when he was signed- a Hevesy special.
And it's true White prob didn't help our recruiting ranking.
But some of these guys worked out.

Now- if we had stayed away from Steele, Jalon Jones and a few others in that class, and signed stronger local kids...
It seems like the Steele thing was the beginning of the end for Mullen.

 

I read up on White before we signed him... and had no problem with his recruitment. He was underrated, under ranked.

 

OL talent is the most difficult position to predict or project while in HS.

Taylor and Barber at OT are great examples. Not as highly recruited or rated as juniors. Improved as seniors but really came into own in college. Ivey was a 5 star that was a good college player but not a NFL starter. Film study, brains to pick up defensive formations and blitz, weight room work to get stronger, quickness, nutrition to maintain weight, work ethic, …. These kids almost 20 in HS have less upside than 17 year old HS OL.

 

Looks like Harris is out.

 

I would go one further and saybour 2nd lowest recruit was our best WR and probably offensive player from that class. Emphasis on was as he quickly faded once Pearsall arrived.

 

Great point. As I look at the class again I'd say 3 of the 4 lowest recruits were among the 7-8 most productive from that class.

Seems like strong evidence to confirm the alLegation that CDM recruited more by recruiting rankings than anything else.

This just goes to show you how pathetic of a recruiter Mullen was. Stevie Wonder could have chosen better players.
