Recall us being in the running, but to what degree? Did it come dow2n to best NIL $$$? Saw a locked article reference from ON3 that implies OSU had the best team money could buy. Figured Candy can answer this one.
UF was in it along with Miami, Georgia, and Oregon. He definitely went to the highest bidder and he loves hartline. I think we finished 3rd behind Miami.
Came down to money, the offense, the preparation for the NFL. The "it's only money" crowd is shallow.
Just happened to have a conversation with a fellow hs football fan about Smith and his recruitment, not realizing there was a thread here on the subject as well. The story he shared with me was, despite the whole <hats on the table ceremony> at Chaminade hs. A financial battle continued to be wage between OSU & Miami that same day until about 10pm that night, which OSU obviously won. The bottom line with this story being, that the battle for Smith, was always about the NIL deal and nothing more.
So, are you saying this based strictly on the NIL consideration? It's interesting because I thought his personal relationship with Lagway might have moved the needle on our chances to land him.
It’s pretty open secret Miami was in his ear with their offer until he signed that morning and he was listening. Florida wasn’t. We were definitely no higher than third.
I'm sure that aspect was intriguing. However, the struggles we were enduring on offense, our win/loss, and all that Ohio State offers meant more. How many Ohio State WRs are in the NFL? According to Ourlads.com, nine former Ohio State receivers are on NFL rosters for the 2024 season.Oct 12, 2024 A look at Ohio State's successful history of sending wide receivers to NFL 2025 Florida Gators in the NFL | Ourlads.com
That's the biggest question to me. Is winning a natty worth 25-30 million in payroll each year? And still no guarantee? A little different in the NFL where each team has a limit on spending that you have to fit within. Without some stroke of luck, no college team is going to win the natty without spending in the 20 million range each year.
They're taking in way over $100 million a year, you damn right it is. But you should come from the colleges that are getting all that money, not from the damn boosters
At least he didn't go to UM. They've built a small school powerhouse at Chaminade with UM being just down the interstate a bit.
