It's not because Kirby is the second coming of Bill Walsh. It's because he even leaves teams like Bama in the dust on the recruiting trail.

The story of Georgia is the players, not the genius of their coaching staff. And Kirby would probably be the first one to tell you that.

 

Crazy to think that about 2-3 top 100 OL guys changes the whole outlook for the future of this team, but that's where we are.

 

I think there's some flashes at key positions. Some guys that you really like are playing well, we just need more of them. I've really liked Mertz and Wilson this year for example. They just really need more help especially up front as you mentioned earlier.

 

Every crummy team has "flashes" at key positions with some playing really well. The good teams have lots of flashes at every position. Wilson cant carry this team offensively...he is 170lb. It would be like having Brandon James or Brandon Powell (small fast guys) be the key to the offense in prior years.

 

yea i was def being overly critical. i agree with you about Mertz, he’s been admirable despite being pounded every game. I believe if the line takes a leap next season, he will be one of the best in the country.

outside of defections to the portal, nobody SHOULD leave for the NFL except MAAAAYBE Princely.

I hope at certain positions on both sides of the ball that certain freshmen on the roster are able to progress and win the starting job next spring specifically along the OL, DL, and secondary

 

You're 100% correct. I'm just saying it's an improvement from last year. But the OL is worse so one step forward, one step backwards I guess. We'll see if recruiting can put it all together.

 

You do realize S James was injured in pregame and still tried to play. You also realize our dline doesn’t hold their gaps well causing LBs to miss their fits allowing cutback lanes correct. #1 played pretty sound but him setting the edge and not jumping inside left a huge hold bc the tackle got washed and the LB was nowhere to be seen. All correctable issues

The pass coverage was a combination of bad footing on the Mconkey big catch and run as well as the wheel route up the Florida sideline.

But our biggest issue is dline has no fast twitch to them and no second move when the oline is giving ground. Scheme is the same only the opponents are better.

 

Our offensive issue we cant pass block at the tackle position. If we could we wouldnt be 1 dimensional. We run block well enough and play calling is better but anything longer a slant and DEs are in Mertz’s grill

 

Agree, Mertz should throw when he hits the last drop step. After that….

 

A sack is bad but uncontested from the rush end is unforgivable. Hell over play and make the DE adjust inside anything but a “lookout” block

 

or go 11 personnel and have Hansen help on the right side. I was stunned we continued to keep DG one on one on the right side more than we should have

 

Speaking of talent differential, would anyone on our roster start for Georgia ? Maybe pumper and kicker ?

 

Pumper for sure. We’re the best in the nation at getting pumped for no reason.

 

Based on my six exceptional years living in Gainesville, I’m gonna go on record, and say Gators should always have the better pumper

"Correctable" has become the 2023 version of "AR only has X number of starts," sooner or later it's just BS.

 

This is easy math: Beat Ark and win the bowl 7-6 real optimism. Lose to Ark. that means 5 straight loses and 5-7 and negatively. I didn't think we would beat Ga. and I don't think we can beat Mizzou at 11 in the cold with their defensive line. Not beating LSU at home and FSU looks really good. Ark. lost to Miss ST. at home 7-3. If we can't beat Ark. we are in real trouble.
