Defense got shredded in zone. UGA sucks vs man yet we went zone. In fact we dominated them in the handful of snaps we went man Passing scheme is laughably amateur. Nothing we did made much sense. Minimal coverage beaters and minimal quick strike. We basically let UGA tee off and asked AR to hit double teamed tight windows while evading rushers. Btw can we stop having him roll out, every team shoots a guy at the edge and we force AR to evade
I don’t know that it’s by design. It seems AR misses the quick slants. I’d go with Napier is calling plays that can be executed at a higher percentage.
The Meyer/Mullen system is notable for having primary reads that are almost always open so that the QB doesn’t even have to think. IMO that’s what we’re missing. We just don’t have those automatic bang-bang plays. Everything is difficult.
Watch this and it proves your point 100%. He does one for our offense too. Napier must hire an OC/QB coach, it is so obvious
This a plausible scenario, I just feel as if he has too many hats right now. If he feels as if he needs more front-line infantry (O-line coaches) than intelligence officers (QB/OC) with a limiting number, I won't dismiss it. It also probably means we aren't going to "Tennessee" next year either. We shall see.
I tend to agree, I deleted a post echoing this thought because I think the offense is good enough to win us most games, but to be a championship level team the defense would have to be elite... and even then the offense may need to be better. That said, it may be better with the right players. I don't think the issue on offense is lack of talent as much as it is lack of scheme fit.
At the end of the day, there are certain programs where a certain identity comes to mind. It's not just the big picture that matters, it's also scheme. And when I think of Florida at its best, I think of a team that spreads the field on offense, screen passes, speed, running the QB with options and bootlegs, etc. I think of a team that gang tackles on defense (that may even get away with weak one-on-one tackling due to speed) and plays aggressive in the secondary, not 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. Doesn't mean other schemes can't work, but I don't understand why coaches don't look at what made a program most successful most recently, and try to hire staff according to those strengths.
