Djt vows to fire the new irs agents. The ones going after the Uber wealthy tax cheats and making billions for the treasury. All while spewing more misinformation about number of new enforcement agents Donald Trump issues major threat to nearly 90,000 IRS agents The number seems to come from a May 2021 report from the Treasury, which estimated the IRS could hire 86,852 full-time employees over the course of a decade with an investment of $80 billion. That included all kinds of staffers, not just enforcement agents. Additionally, the agency previously said that many of the new hires would be replacements for staffers retiring.
Where in your quoted article does it say that these agents were “going after” billionaires and uber wealthy? All it says is they need to maintain current levels. Did you just assume that or is that just your opinion?
Been well documented before that the additional enforcement would focus on wealthy using elaborate tax shelters. Here is a link if you really care Inside the IRS unit taking on America’s millionaires and billionaires - ICIJ
Someone educate me and spare me any research, which isn't worth it. Aren't agency inspector generals, IRS agents, and other such enemies of the state included in what are known as civil servants? And I thought civil servants can't just be fired on the whim of some autocrat, that they have some kind of protection in their jobs. Am I wrong?
Example 693,459,231 of Trump not giving a $hit about what is best for America, only about what is best for rich people like him and his donors. Astounding that his cult doesn't see the con. But what did we expect from a criminal who has an extensive record of, well....crime.
Since his is in Vegas, maybe he heard a rake (national sales tax) would be a better approach. A transaction based tax would seem to create an environment for mob “back of the truck” transactions and maybe the price of Bitcoin and other crypto coins outside of the US banking and transaction system would go to infinity.
Well if these are newly hired they can be fired in their first year since they are in a probation period
I know that Trump has already broken the law by "firing" the IGs without notifying Congress. Imagine that, our POTUS breaking the law at will.
There is a very good discussion on this issue in this thread: Trump fires 17 (known) IG's on Friday Night Massacre - Who needs oversight? Read the posts from @GatorBen who details the issues between the IG's, who are in the Executive branch, and the Congress.
Nothing would surprise me during the next four years - or beyond, God forbid. I don't want to go that deep into any of it. Just suffice it to say that we are in deep.... What's the expression?
This. Some of the posts make clear that Trump didn't actually break the law on this. He just violated longstanding norms, in order to personally shape oversight, pretty obviously so that he will be unimpeded as he commits crimes in his second term, as he clearly did in his first term. Trumppublican voters seem OK with this. But then, when have they voiced opposition to his criminality thus far?
Actually it is well documented that those agents are going to end up focusing on the middle and lower classes when all is said and done. The Uber wealthy can afford to hire extremely good lawyers and former IRS agents to defend themselves and drag out an investigation into their taxes. That ROI for the IRS is so low that it is not going to be worth their time so they will end up concentrating on people that cannot afford lawyers and former IRS agents, ie middle and lower classes.
Define well documented. Link? Not enough juice in the squeeze at the bottom and dems wouldn't squeeze the bottom. I'm calling BS
From the IRS itself. Wall Street Journal: The most recent data suggests the IRS is still focused on the middle class. As of last summer, 63% of new audits targeted taxpayers with income of less than $200,000. Only a small overall share reached the very highest earners, while 80% of audits covered filers earning less than $1 million. Don’t forget to save those charitable-giving receipts. https://www.wsj.com/articles/irs-ta...s-tigta-5071d622?mod=hp_trending_now_opn_pos1
94% of all families make less than $200k. 63% of families making up audits would be a serious underrepresentation. Not an over sampling. For the under $1M its even more lopsided. 99.5% make less and it makes up only 80% of audit. Why cant the right just be an honest broker about discussions? I literally want to scream.
show me where it says the new employees are going to increase the audits on the middle class. I didn't see any per capita numbers. here are the real per capita audit numbers. doesn't fit the agenda. chances of being audited double from $500k to $1M and nearly double again when you make more than $5M and then go up 12 fold from middle class odds if over $10M. swing and a miss.... And why have those numbers not changed since the New Green New Deal passed? At the end of the day, there is a reason that the IRS sends 63% of their efforts on people making less than $200k and I know you know why that is. What percentage of the IRS' effort should be focus on those who make more than $400k?
Do you think that all of those new agents are going to end up focusing on $500k and above income levels or do you think the level of effort will remain the same? Honestly at this point, it really no longer matters since the IRS has not been able to reach their staffing goals and Republicans are likely going to repeal a lot of those new hires in their reconciliation bill.
