I agree with all this 100%. Plus those people putting money into the collective will not want to see these million dollar busts. And yes, you can bet some of these guys are going to be busts. If we thought NFL contracts were ridiculous, imagine dealing with immature 17 year olds, and their hangers ons. This aint going to last and the money will start to go back to a more reasonable amount.
I’ve said this very thing in 2 separate posts. I totally agree with you. I’ll take the hungry 4 star without the entitlement every single time. Many times…they are just as talented. This is going to be interesting. I will also repeat, I hope the broadcasters show on screen what the high priced players are making. It will take about 1 game to show fans it’s not worth it.
Good question and you probably echo staff’s calculus. I guess we will see if Texas, A&M and miami can maintain the levels we believe they are paying. Hopefully staff can recruit on a relative shoe string and get better results for the money. If we finish with a couple of LBs, OTs and DTs we will have a solid class.
I hear we are spending money, so we aren't on a shoestring budget. They are picking and choosing what they spend it on and trying to make the smart decisions.
I agree. Now, looking at this with my O&B glasses stapled in place, what happens to scUM's class ranking if that 5-star doesn't pan out or if he reneges on his deal? Aside from him, they have only 8 four stars, plus 8 threes. I frankly prefer where we are comparatively speaking (at least for the moment) with 14 fours and only 2 threes. And if we can pick up 2-3 more high four stars in August, we'll really be sitting pretty. Of course, there are some gaps that need attention, but BN obviously doesn't stand around waiting for stuff to take care of itself. Just my totally biased, lizard-loving opinion.
That’s about the way I see it and we need three or four more players in key positions. If you’re going to overpay for somebody, over pay for them late to fill a hole. We could probably use a couple difference makers.
I've seen some pretty optimistic projections on the DL. There were three really good ones listed on this site in the last day or two that could potentially solve that problem. I'll see if I can find the post and get those names. OL and LB seem to be a matter of expanding the search/getting some flips at this point. I'll see what I can find out and get back to you.
The three DLs I was referring to were Kamran James, Kelby Collins and Will Norman. All three are CB'd to UF - for what that's worth.
Baxter said he didn’t care about NIL in his decision. He wants to go to a program on the rise that will win. He wants to play with a good QB, and great OL (mentioned Kirkland as well) He didn’t want a loaded RB room. He is a student of the game and said NIL deals will be earned at any of the schools in his top 4. All that said, it’s still Texas. He made up his mind over a month ago, and we all know about the leaked commitment edit.
I may have conflated the other two with Collins. My apologies. The other two are CB'd by Jacob Rudner, who actually is pretty much right all the time. I pulled a rivals on this one, but I'll check with Karnak later to see if there is still any hope there.
Does that mean that I get credit for whipping up some good mojo if he does pick the good guys? Or is it more along the lines of my being held personally responsible, and appropriately tortured, if he doesn't? Trying to plan my weekend, don't you know.
