Both had a big reputation that didn’t manifest on field. No improvement in fundamental football. Tackling, approach angles, discipline and football IQ were worse. I think the O line is next.
How long have you been here and you don't know the rules yet?? Once you are down on a coach you are required (it's in the rules) to bitch about everything. And it has to be the best bitching. About the littlest things. That's in the rules. They won't tell you it's in the rules but I've seen it.
I also would think this throws the whole youth argument in doubt. If youth is the cause of defensive struggles, you would keep coaches to provide continuity.
I love Napier, but, has one trick play worked this year? Doesn't seem like it, and, they've all been drive-killers.
There was the one left handed pass by ETN that worked against South Carolina, but tried it 2 weeks later against UGA and failed miserably, like the others
Watson’s job should be to tie up blockers and eat up space to allow LBs and others to get in on the play. They usually don’t get a lot of the sacks and glory. Please note, I said this “should” be his job. Not sure if this was always the case.
I did and enjoyed the moment. No doubt, he’s strong. Not sure why anyone would call him out after seeing that!
Just my opinion, but I think it was a bit of a mistake to throw Austin Armstrong right into the fire this year. I think he's going to be a very good DC in a couple of years, but there were times I think he was just over his head and surprised at what the offenses were doing and it seemed to take a while for him to adjust. Last year I would have liked to have seen Napier maybe hire Armstrong and an experienced position coach/co-DC who had experience as a DC. I'm not sure if that idea makes as much sense now or not.
Because it's a rarity. The majority of the snaps he gets, he is handled by one OL and the play has passed him. If he got double teamed and ate up blockers it would be a different story. But that is not the case with Watson. The reality is unless Dez dramatically reshapes himself for his senior year, it will be his last playing football. The avg size of an NFL DL is 6'5 314 pounds. There are bigger guys like Vea at 350 but no one approaching Watson at his current weight. With smaller active rosters, he would have to be a 3 down lineman and he doesn't have the stamina for it.
