Rashada named starter at ASU

Even at the end of the season, I'm not quite sure it will make sense to compare a true freshman to an experienced 5th year player

 

The comparison will be who we missed on vs. who we got. The year, schedule, talent around you will all be excuses for either side of rhe argument.

Um, about the same at UF with Lagway coming in the next year?

No, I did not expect him to play much this season, but if Mertz (and Miller) were ineffective, the pressure to play him sooner rather than later would ramp up. And I do hope he shows real promise.

 

In the end, it's better to have players who want to become Florida Gators!

 

According to that posted article, it would have been an expensive "13-million dollar" developmental project for an unproven athlete.

Who knows how much Graham Mertz is receiving in Nil, perhaps it's cheaper. Mertz may have just as much potential but may also be a 'hungrier' player with much to prove in a new setting (i.e, new team/conference).

Another question would have been, would Florida have DJ Lagway as a comitment if they already had another top QB prospect like Rashada?

I guess eventually Florida and Napier would like to stack high quality prospects at many key positions like quarterback.

 

Mertz may be tge better player short term and has only two yers left and Lagway isn’t going to sit multiple years anywhere. It’s a longterm build and Lagway should be perfect timing.

I’m still curious about the whole truth on that. I mean, you’re telling me that UF couldn’t meet this guy’s NIL price but a school like ASU could? Makes no sense.

A number of reports out now that we wanted Hartman or Pratt and even one report suggesting we inquired about Rising's level of interest in remaining at Utah.

 

Oh - it sounded to me like he wanted to compare Mertz to Rashada - implying that we “missed on” Rashada. I think there’s a lot more to it than that. Entirely likely Napier pulled the plug when the money demands got stupid
