JR entered an agreement with third-parties who would have liked to see him be a Gator. The obligations of NIL, payments, etc lie between JR and those third-parties.

JR signed a NLI to get a scholarship at UF.
The obligations there are between JR and UF to play football in exchange for an education.

UF now has staffers and support personnel specifically to help advise student athletes on how to navigate the NIL space. UF has no obligation to assist a non-student who was looking for NIL agreements before enrolling, or who may have been blindsided/jilted by an attorney or sports agency that may have tacked on fees or took their cut off the top.

As frustrating as it is, I understand why UF is taking the cautionary approach here about not paying recruits before they're actually on the team and this situation may have been avoided altogether if student athletes were made aware of the sharks in the water when it comes to money being involved.

First post on this subject. I read the above thread, and started thinking. What if his issue is not with us or the people (not to be named) that he came to an agreement with on NIL. What is his issue is with HIS agent. I saw somewhere that the agent fees were $300K. What if he was expecting a 10% cut and his agent slipped in a much higher amount than he was expecting. In this case, his best scenario is not to enter school. There is probably a clause in the NIL contract that states the contract is void if he does not enter UF. This may be a way of getting out of the deal with his agent and negotiating a new NIL later.

I have no first hand knowledge. Just thinking out loud.

Certainly as good a possibility and just as much evidence of that as there is of any of the numerous other thoughts folks have been tossing around. Until we actually know something, all there is is speculation.
