I'm not ok with theocracy either. My point is these folks who are in favor of it would lose their minds if a religion other than their own were the theocracy.

Abject fail. I never saw Jimmy Carter telling other people how to live their lives. Never heard him being intolerant or hateful. Never saw him ranting about Jesus this and that. He practiced his faith quietly led by example and the only proselytizing he did was teach Sunday school (to a somewhat accepting audience).

I think you misunderstood River's intent. I think he was using the late President Carter as an excellent example of an exemplary Christian. Nothing like what passes for one in most MAGA circles.

Ah well then I agree, but I clearly said evangelicals not Christians. I even have a friend who goes to church (mostly to appease the wife).

Yes, you did. And I could have been more clear in my statement. Carter was a Southern Baptist, an evangelical
    denomination. Apology for the confusion.

My definition of an evangelical is as I described. You are entitled to your definition of course.

Perhaps so. Christianity has evolved over the period of its existence and at present its most vocal element is the evangelical movement. Evangelicals believe they know what is best for all of us, but most of all for themselves. But it's also driven by reformers like John McArthur, who happens to be a Calvinist and subject of this thread: Mega Church pastor: "slavery is the heart of what it means to be a true Christian”

Calvinists aren't so much evangelical as they are self righteous. If you don't believe as they do you are headed to hell. They believe God has preordained or predestined who will be 'saved' and who will burn for eternity in the hell of their vision. Haters are found in all denominations of Christianity. But it's worse among those who accuse others, of any - all - or no religious persuasion, of hating Jesus and hating Christianity. It's how they justify their extreme views and authoritarian and restrictive legislation.

Maga claiming a pillar of Christianity, "Love Thy Neighbor" is too woke.

“When the pastor would say, 'I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ' ... The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak," he added. "When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis."

An evangelical leader is warning that conservative Christians are now rejecting the teachings of Jesus as "liberal talking points."

Russell Moore, former top official for the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) who is now the editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, said during an interview aired on NPR's All Things Considered this week that Christianity is in a "crisis" due to the current state of right-wing politics.

Moore suggested that Trump had transformed the political landscape in the U.S. to the point where some Christian conservatives are openly denouncing a central doctrine of their religion as being too "weak" and "liberal" for their liking.”

Leave slick Willie Clinton out of this, please.

Arkansas might just change their statute of limitations to get him one day... That would be hilarious. New York did it, why can't Arkansas.

Well looky here - the dean of Psychology at Cornell University (ranked #8 in the country) has just clinically diagnosed Trump as a sociopath and suffering from dementia via extensive observation in concurrence with my own diagnosis.

This was signed on to by about a hundred leading psychologists from prestigious universities in a lettter though I can’t presently find it. Consider yourself schooled.

Cornell expert says Trump’s frequent phonemic paraphasia ‘are signs of early dementia’ | Cornell Chronicle

“Objectively, Donald Trump has a documented history of lying that is so marked as to be considered 'pathological.' Politicians often say untrue things, but the frequency of Trump’s lying is so extreme as to meet criteria for sociopathic behavior, since he tells falsehoods across all life domains, from his personal relationships to business dealings and finally to politics. Recently, several clinicians have noted the ways he has begun to mistake words, lose his train of thought, confuse Biden with Obama, particularly during long rallies held in the evening. There are examples of phonemic paraphasia – swapping parts of words for others that sound similar; these are signs of early dementia, even though they are intermittent.”

The new guy just seems like a troll who wants to flame the board, likely someone who got tossed at some point and this is just another iteration.

The posting style is familiar and often filled with hate and consistently egotistical.

Let's look at the wonderful examples of paragons the American evangelical movement wants to run the country:

--Trump: King of scumbags and liable for sexual assault. Enough said.
    --MTG: Multiple time adulterer.
--Boebert: HJs in public places and an adulterer.
--Johnson: Was living with a 14-year-old boy as an adult that was not his son.

Extreme religious movements always have leaders that don't follow the standards they want to impose on everyone else.

It’s as plain as day, America is descending into theocracy. Politicians, celebrities, corporate heads, journalists and countless ordinary folks are being cancelled for refusing to acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior. *shudders*
