Racist thugs see opportunity to beat black man get rude surprise

I don't see much point in wasting resources and putting people through the upheaval that charges and the criminal legal system cause if I don't think it's likely to result in a conviction. The exception would be the chair guy because he used a weapon. Let the jury make the call there.

My wife witnessed what she thinks was racism yesterday when leaving Walmart. An elderly AA woman with 4 children had her receipt checked as she was walking out. My wife was behind her in line. When my wife showed her receipt the guy said go on and didn’t look at her receipt.

My wife mentioned it to me. Even though we are both white that made us think it was racism. Now imagine being an AA and seeing that. Whether it was racism or not the perception is that it was.

It’s sad that we are all prejudiced to a certain extent. We learn it growing up. It’s on all of us to do our best to take a step back and reevaluate why and correct it.

I’ll get off my soapbox now.

 

I’m sure that some people exaggerate the amount of racism in the US. But I also suspect there’s a lot that us white folk aren’t aware of. I remember Gatorknights saying a black property appraiser was regularly questioned by police when he worked. Knights never was.

 

I grew up with blacks starting at age 5 when we moved out of the city to the Keystone/Odessa area. I witnessed it myself. That was 1958. Never would have had that exposure if we had stayed in Tampa.
