what does florida have to do, or michigan have to do for UF to move to #2 even though florida's average score is higher?

If not first, does second or third matter? Right now, we try harder teams are doing the best. Avis is beating Hertz.

Coming into the season, I thought UCLA and Michigan State were ranked too far down the list. This latest Road to Nationals proves that point with UCLA at 5 and MSU at 10.

The 197.700 at Oklahoma was a counting road score, but it’s the lowest counter that Florida has on the slate for now. Next Sunday’s road meet and SECs both provide chances to improve on that 197.700, but Florida is now also guaranteed to count two sub-198 scores, which gives Michigan the advantage in the race for 2nd. Florida would need a road score of 198.200 or higher this week to better match Michigan’s road scores and also guarantee staying ahead of Utah.
Michigan beat Oklahoma 198.025-197.925 on Monday and helped its NQS but only slightly, but Michigan will have a chance to get rid of that road 197.400 next weekend at Georgia to create some real distance ahead of Florida. A 197.875 next weekend would ensure Michigan holds onto the #2 ranking for another week regardless of what Florida scores.

People worry too much about the regular season. Wake me up when they are in in Dallas (the second time), it’s all that matters.

It's a joke that a lower seed gets to host. After a long season, results mean very little when #5 UCLA hosts #4 Utah and #11 Denver hosts #3 Florida and #6 LSU. Just ridiculous

My least favorite thing about the sport. It’s cost us a couple of times, including that infamous trip to Oregon state a few years ago as a three seed. Just beyond dumb that a higher seed gets penalized.

good news is next year we host a regional.

We want to avoid the Denver Regional. The two time zones, the 5,000 feet higher altitude differential and competing against one team that has beaten us this year and the host school that is acclimated to the thinner air present unique challenges that I prefer a team like Michigan to deal with. We want the Pittsburgh Regional. Thanks to Jenny's decision to rest some key gymnasts at Oklahoma (we only needed a 197.900 to stay #2 and ahead of Michigan), a three seed is our most likely seed for Regionals. Denver scored a program record high of 198.150 on Saturday, but thanks to Michigan State's program record high score of 198.225, Denver dropped from 10 to 11 in the latest NQS standings. With one final regular season meet, a Saturday road tri-meet against host Air Force and Nebraska, Denver needs a 197.725 to move past Auburn, move up in the seedings and keep the Gators in Eastern Time Zone and in similar elevation.

If we can’t get out of a regional, regardless of where it is, we aren’t winning nationals. And even if we make it up to 2 and denver jumps a spot we have the same problem. Or we fall to 4 and end up in LA with UCLA. Heck we could rise to 1 and if denver goes to 8 we are still going there.
Whatever we get is what we get, it’s impossible to game it out. Until the system is fixed you just have to play your season out to whatever strategy you have and let the chips fall.
    But the system is awful.

The Balance Beam Situation has a great synopsis on the current Regionals "situation" (see how clever I used Situation:emoji_nerd:).
    Oklahoma
cannot be caught this weekend regardless of what happens. While it’s not yet guaranteed that Oklahoma will finish the regular season at #1, Michigan would have to average better than 198.300 at its remaining two meets to even have a shot, so it’s quite likely that Oklahoma will head to regionals as the national #1.
A 197.875 next weekend at Georgia would ensure Michigan holds onto the #2 ranking for another week regardless of what Florida scores.
Fo the Gators, next Sunday’s road meet and SECs both provide chances to improve on that 197.700. We would really love a road score of the 198.200+ this week to better match Michigan’s road scores and also guarantee staying ahead of Utah.
To have a shot at going any higher than 4th, Utah will have to put in some higher road numbers, though the main goal for the moment will probably be staying ahead of UCLA for the top ranking at the Pac-12 Championship. Utah can guarantee the top spot at Pac-12s with a 198.200, but that’s a big score and anything lower would leave them slightly vulnerable to the Bruins.
Auburn is competing at home this weekend which means they cannot drop a road 197.200. This makes them very vulnerable to being passed by Michigan State, Denver, Kentucky, and Oregon State after this weekend. Auburn looks increasingly likely to be that #3 regionals seed no one wants to draw.
Sunday’s program record 198.225 elevated Michigan State into the top 10—and allows for the opportunity to move up even more if things go right this weekend. With a very doable 197.500 on Saturday, Michigan State would guarantee moving ahead of Auburn. It would take 198.175 to guarantee not being passed by anyone else.
Denver’s Auburn-passing goal score this week is 197.725, which the team has not yet done on the road but surely isn’t an out-of-this-world aim at this point. Since Michigan State and Kentucky have higher maximums after this weekend than Denver, moving ahead of Auburn would be the one way Denver can guarantee not losing more ground in the rankings.

I have moved up to GC Legend status!!
    Go Gators!!
