This massive increase in efficiency will translate to much more powerful solar panels that will also be much cheaper to manufacture. I've been waiting to install home solar and will finally pull the trigger when this new tech hits the market.

I always am waiting for the next great thing to reach market but before it does I am already looking to the next next great thing.

Current solar tech is so much better and cheaper than it was, yet installation costs have gone UP not DOWN. Makes it hard to justify new system installation even with the tax incentives!

Oh yeah, the molecular beam epitaxy required to deposit the stoichiometrically correct compounds will be MUCH cheaper than doped Si.

Can't wait to read about these in 30-40 years when someone finally figures out how to mass produce this.

The tax incentives are part of why it's gone up.

Same reason efficient HVACs jumped at least $600 and force air heat pumps jumped $2000 a couple years ago. The tax credit consumers receive makes a great opportunity to jack up prices, especially in an environment where you can blame it on inflation.

All of the above in power generation is good news... if they can make these new panels work properly and cheaply.
