This kid was sacked 23 times on a team that ran the ball 58% of the time. He isn’t a Trask waiting to happen. Rashada or bust if you ask me.
A) I'm not betting on a skinny freshman from California to lead this team next year. B) If Mertz is our starter, than based on his numbers, mediocrity will be the ceiling again next year. C) Shocking transfer and reeks of desperation by our coaching staff. I haven't been as underwhelmed as I was since our last Big ten qb transfer. It's like writing off the 2023 season Really disappointed, so far, with regards to a qb transfer.
Comparable to the Luke Del Rio/Austin Appleby situation. Time will tell if he's a good fit for Florida (who I think both were underrated for Florida). It seems like Billy wants running the ball to set up the pass to be our offensive identity moving forward which isn't a surprise based on his Louisiana days.
Long-term, with the proper development and the guys we have currently committed, it looks like it. Next year, who knows? But provided that we're good everywhere else we can overcome mediocrity at QB. The truly crappy part is Billy apparently whiffing on Jack Miller. It seems like AR didn't fit Billy's offensive scheme and Miller just isn't very good, so in not recruiting a game-ready solid SEC caliber QB LAST cycle, he's delayed progress at the QB position really a couple years.
The only people it makes sense to redshirt are people you don't see any way they see the field that year, anyways, whether that be due to frame, ability, or depth.
Nick Evers decommits in a huff last December, not sure what elite HS talent was available at that point, Jack Miller was probably a pretty decent grab given our situation Jalen Kitna existed … he did .. didn’t ever have to come down to Jack Miller AR existed … leaves us with one season experience, so any portal QB Billy brought in last year couldn’t have been game ready, bc they easily could have been looking at two years before playing I.e. Jayden Daniels or similar wasn’t coming here with our situation
