Let’s be realistic here…nick bosa he is not. He is a good player but not worth top dollar in the NIL market. If he was being reasonable, I’m sure the coaches would have found a way to pay him.

Nonsense! The NCAA thought long and hard about this before implementing the NIL. They spent a lot of time with focus groups; formed committees to study all the possible ramifications of this decision and its impacts on the sport, the schools, the fans and the players. All possibilities were studies and game planned for to avoid any downsides before taking this monumental decision.

Oh wait. That's what I had said way back should happen. I forgot they actually they didn't ANY of this sh*t. Now it's a freight train careening off the tracks and no going back.

So as a result of wing’s com’on man I’ll say what I first was gonna say. Loved him this year. Loved seeing him grow into the position so well and his positive impact on our D. Hollered for him in the Swamp. But now, sorry to see him go but don’t let the door hit him in the ass on the way out. Unfortunately I am not going to get over the lack of loyalty kids have today for my program, so I am not obligated to remain loyal to them when they make such decisions. Right now he is one iota above ETN in my book and he has room to drop depending on where he sells himself. OTOH, if he decides to stay and continue to grow with the good guys, then I will welcome him back like a prodigal son. Otherwise, he’s GatorBait.

Kids have no reason to come to the bargaining table. They’re getting what they want.

This also won’t get rid of NIL. Just like pre NIL, the teams that have fans/boosters that want to pay the most are going to continue to do so.

The NCAA was forced into this by the courts and the only way to fix it requires a statutory exemption to bypass anti trust laws.

They were forced into it, I agree. They also sat on their hands for years fighting this instead of being proactive and coming up with a solution that may have worked for both sides. They didn’t get what they wanted, and they lost all control of everything fighting for it.

They have nil in the NFL, but that doesn't really matter does it. You can sign a contract and you can either play or sit

They were happy paying less under the table and buying cheaper rosters while sanctioning teams that tried to do the same thing. Its been dirty forever and its blowing up in their faces now. I cant imagine a large group of boosters washing their hands of it in the near future.

Stupid money being thrown around. And when someone who has grinded for 3years and develops into an integral part of the roster …it most be hard when teams throw 750k to a Fresh who hasn’t impacted anything yet.

This system sucks, but I see both sides.

AND, he hasn’t exactly left yet.

Its the worst system in sports but noone works for half price and the going rate is not too much to expect.

Bingo. And as you posted further down, it has to be the pro model. These athletes are not going to class (per Jeff Cardozo) and simply waiting on the highest bidder, then sayonara. Pure capitalism at its finest. Nothing wrong with that, but the pretense of the student athlete is a joke. Challenge the NFL with a 1960’s style AFL model and let the chips fall where they may. A high school draft, contracts, collective bargaining, and of course a commissioner. Divisional football rules, the conferences die (they already have) and the high rollers of NIL and the return of the bag man is a distant memory.

    We’ve been over this.

We force a lot of attrition. Are you going to lock up every kid on a 4-5 year contract? You’re not going to want to be able to purge unproductive parts of the roster? They’re not going to agree to sign contracts that lock them up, but give them no guarantees, so you’re going to have a lot of waste on the roster.

The NFL didn’t have a third party system funding it for 100 years before deciding to put players on contracts. They also didn’t have a fully developed system in place to pay players directly, outside the normal constructs of the team. You think the boosters at the top programs won’t continue to circumvent any type of normal pay structure and contract setup?

If you pay, you have to put contract restraints on the players. That's what professional sports all do. For a reason.

Guess wrong, you're stuck; guess right, you are rewarded. Talent evaluations will be paramount.

But you cannot let players milk you for a year and then bounce when a bigger bag arrives.

I don't care what the NFL did 100 years ago; isn't relevant today.
