    Gators commit penalties. That doesn't mean I'm not calling out Miami when they do it (here, our "team" is America - not Ds or Rs). Even if one would feel intellectually dishonest about being a Gator homer and booing the refs when we get called on clear penalties, that person can simply concede our own penalties without acting like the penalties of our opponents didn't happen.

    Obviously, the stakes with democracy are much higher than a football game, and no analogy is perfect. But the influence of foreign governments in our domestic politics is a key reason Washington warned against our having political parties in the first place. That doesn't mean I want to go go war over some divisive Russian or Chinese propaganda on Facebook. But if Americans get comfortable with foreign governments hacking and releasing documents or experimenting with hacking into offices which supervise our elections and count votes, they will get more and more intrusive to try to earn favors from the winning side. And that sort of meddling would be somewhat asymmetric interference since countries most likely to do those things don't have real or fair elections in the first place.
