I think Haugh is super athletic, that block he had last game was unreal. Isn’t his natural position at the 3? It’d be nice to be able to move him there permanently and get that German big back healthy to back up Condon/Samuel/Handlogten.
If Appleby is not a ball hog, then Nero wasn’t an emperor, and the Earth is flat. I watched that guy not give up the ball in the latter part of Wake’s last 10 games last season, plus watching him at UF. His game was to either score himself or try to make the assist. It was like watching a piss poor version of James Harden.
I honestly don’t know where that came from. He doesn’t have much of a handle. He can shoot a little off the catch, but not the bounce. He looks like a 4 to me (which is the position he played as a prep and on the travel circuit). Rebounds and defends very well in the paint. Has the length and athleticism to be a terrific finisher.
Ok... I didn't really watch him play at Wake Forest, so I can't comment on that. If we are strictly talking his time at UF, I personally didn't see ballhogging behavior. I won't argue with you about WF, since I don't have knowledge of his time there.
I’m just spitballing. Probably not a 3 but HS highlights suggested he could play multiple positions. Maybe not on D1 level at this moment.
Like I said, I'm not sure he could handle the pick and weave having to dribble much. But the pick and pop with a high low check off should be in his wheel house. I like how he moves with effort. He's not going to play much behind Samuel and once the Human Consonant gets back he might get even less time at the 4. I don't think he is ready to play only in the 3 spot but could be more valuable in several spots to make the defense have to adjust.
He's dribbled some but agree he's not ready for any driving down the lane. He is 2 for 6 from the 3 so still unknown how good of a shot he really has but I see him moving well without the ball and think his size up top would be difficult to stop him from shooting if he can a bang in a few from 3.
In fairness to AN, Pullin has a better Coach & is in a better system. Andrew was then, was at Gonzaga, and still is a talented PG. It took the very poor system and coaching of Mike White to make him look as bad as he did here. Sometimes, it is just as simple as “ poor coaching “.
Is he Mike Miller absolutely not. I personally see an athletic 4. I haven’t seen a whole lot to make me think he should play anywhere else but if we were to get into a bind it would be intriguing to see what the staff would do.
Haugh almost certainly can play the 3. He is a good ballhandler, passer and driver and will become a good perimeter shooter. He also is athletic enough to defend the 3. I base the above on the 3 or 4 high school games that I watched him play on YouTube.
It reminds me a bit of Chandler Parsons. He arrived as part of the Calathes package deal. His first two years were...mixed. There was no inkling (IMO) his first year that he'd end up SEC POY. It's like he grew into his skillset. All 3 of them (Hando, Condo, Haugh) all seem to have a lot more ceiling ahead. And none are anywhere close to NBA flight risks.
In very simple terms when you declare to test the draft waters, but may want to come back to school-there is a very set list of what you can and cannot do. Prior to a few years ago, this process of testing the waters wasn't even available. You can go for X number of workouts with X number of teams, and showcase here and there, but you cannot go to Portsmouth because the Portsmouth is its own entity, and not on said list of sanctioned events/things you can do. Portsmouth is held very early in the pre draft process (like a week to 10 days after the NCAA Championship game). ZP knew what he was doing when he went to Portsmouth, that's why even thought its a very prestigious event, a lot of guys are skipping it now.
You made my point. How do you feel about the NCAA’s basketball redshirt rule, which is that if you play 1 second it costs you a year of eligibility?
But Parsons was always a combo forward with great shooting range. Rivals ranked him top-20 overall as a three. Scout/247 ranked him as the 12 best SF. All the services had Haugh as a PF. He is listed at about the same height/weight as Parsons as a frosh (6'9" and 210), but he looks far more muscular than Parsons ever did at Florida. I think Haugh can develop into a four who has the ability to stretch the floor and rebound at a high level in the paint, but can also defend three positions. On the travel circuit, he was best known for his defensive energy. Last year, he finally started hitting his jumpers and finishing around the rim with authority. That extra prep ear worked out very well for him.
Im not debating you. This is a black and white issue. ZP knew when he played Portsmouth he was in effect drawing a line in the sand. It's over and done with anyway.
I get it that Pullin knew he would get the three game suspension. All I’m saying is that the rule is absolutely ridiculous. The NCAA allows players to declare for the draft and then withdraw from the draft. If you’re going to declare for the draft, you are going to want to be able to play in a tournament where you have 300 or so NBA and other coaches in attendance. in my opinion, the NCAA is a horribly run organization. How do you let college football players play 4 games in a season and still redshirt when you won’t let a college basketball player play a single second? You’re allowed to have 13 players on scholarship in basketball, but the normal rotation is nine or 10 players. how about letting the other players play up to 10 games and still redshirt. Then those guys won’t feel like they’re wasting a season and might be less inclined to enter the transfer portal.
