The revenues to GDP chart just confirms what I said. It's lower now than for most of the past 60 years. It's only been lower about 8 of the last 60 years.

 

If go back historically it’s been this low many, many times. This isn’t some big aberration.

Spending is still well above historical averages.

Some democrats also fall into that category. I've met a number of wealthy and extremely condescending and snobbish democrats in the DC suburbs. I've often thought being a Democrat makes them feel better about themselves.

I mean - holy shit - look at the twice-impeached absolute criminal that the Republicans just elected.

So in a relative sense, they've got a lot they can feel quite comparatively good about. Much better, in fact, than anyone who would help put a criminal into office.

That includes entitlements and defense. Some of you are having a hard time separating what it takes to run the government from entitlements and defense. The pure running of the government ins’t much of the growth. It’s entitlements and healthcare costs mainly.

Here’s the $6T budget with me rounding off how we spend it.

$600B running this place
$900B defending this place
$750B financing this place’s debt
$4,000B on entitlements, yea $4T: Healthcare, Social security, pensions, poverty, unemployment

As you can see messing around with the $600B we budget to run the government is nearly meaningless.

 

I do not consider Social Security and Medicare an entitlement as we pay into both of them in every paycheck, plus Part B Medicare is taken out of my SS check every month. I went on SS.gov and got the amount I have paid in to SS since the my initial year of working on a W2. If I took just a modest return of 5% on that money in a private investment, I would have almost 2.5 times more money in my SS account.

 

again if we just went to a zero based budget process instead of baseline budgeting process, the amount of fat that could be trimmed is HUGE

 

That ignores the fact that you didn’t pay for your $8T in defense spending. You don’t get to put away money and borrow 10Xs that amount and think you actually saved something. I thought you were a fiscal conservative? Only when cconvenient?
