Lots of paid people where? You had a post in February in another thread where you had two links supposedly validating your claim.
First link was of a UAW publication, very pro-Biden, and said Trump had spent $20,000 to stage a rally.
And?
Do people who organize events do them for free? Was the money to pay people to attend? Was it $19,000 for security and $1,000 for signs?
Second link did not claim any such thing (that Trump was paying people). It was about students at HBCU in Atlanta who coordinated with each other.

You're welcome to claim Trump pays people to protest; but, before anyone accepts your claim please share credible confirmation.

 

I'm sort of with gator-lawyer on this - I think the right to protest is essential in our democracy. It's one way for the masses to have their voices heard. However, they must be peaceful and non-diaruptive. The latter requirement is hard to define, but occupying University buildings as happened in '68 obviously should not be allowed. However, protests are by their nature disruptive to some extent.

 

1. There was a prior post to mine claiming these UF protesters were being paid - did you ask for their links?
2. You owe me 5 mins of my time. I searched the word paid and my name, hundreds of hits, and I never before mentioned Trump’s paid supporters that I can find. I don’t ever remember referencing it before either. You probably confused me with GatorJMDZ who just posted two links similar to the ones you reference and has a blue Gator avatar too.
3. Do I really need to answer this with such bad faith in your question parameters? I don’t care if people show up to protest paid or not. Doesn’t change my opinion of free speech nor my opinion that minorities including Jews shouldn’t be intimidated. They just aren’t mutually exclusive to me. Palestinian civilians are being killed in large numbers regardless of the complex reasons and it’s a worthy subject to protest.

Look, I get the freedom of speech angle vis a vis a university, but shutting down bullies on campus isn't a FOS issue, it's a matter of fostering a peaceful environment so that a specific targeted minority, may also pursue education freely.

Take their antisemitic bullshit the hell off campus, period (preemptively--even if they try to couch their antisemitism in anti-Zionism).

There's a whole world off UF's campus where those antisemitic assholes are free to show their asses to their heart's content.

i just mean go fight the good fight where it matters. All they’re doing is making it harder for Uf affiliated groups to protest for things that matter at Uf, like grad student pay, benefits for grad student parents, etc. which kind of sucks for those here who want to use protest as a tool to push forward things that directly impact students and faculty.

 

I understand why you're taking that stance, but it is inconsistent with free speech.

 

I just think it sucks the air out in such a way that it hurts causes on campus for others that have real issues that need to be addressed so I feel little sympathy for this particular protest but I totally understand your position.

 

For someone who arguably communicates for a living you certainly impute a lot of things into a conversation that were never claimed nor stated. Case in point: cite where I said Trump’s rally in Michigan was “real”. No can do because it’s only in your mind.

When folks make declarations I like them to back them up rather than guess on their veracity.

Back to OP: UF should have clear rules and consequences spelled out before this stuff happens.

 

I'd say it's worth considering the psychological value this sort of protest can have, particularly for people who are dealing with "real issues" caused directly by UF but feel unable and/or unsupported in their ability to speak out about those issues.
