Name calling aside, you’ve spilled a great deal of words abhorred by the innocent deaths of Palestinians. I’m saddened by the loss of life, too. But, you just can’t bring yourself to decry Israeli blood. Not once. That has nothing to do with your nationality, and it has nothing to do with your tax money.
The actual sad part of this is your inability to recognize how actions such as these undermine their own goals and the incredibly important right of free speech (as do you by downplaying the actions as nice kid/heat of the moment). All it does is distract from their message, and serve to reduce the ability of others to convey their legitimate message. I'm as centrist/moderate as they come, although MAGA would absolutely consider me a liberal. But because I don't accept spitting on LEO who have only done their job and don't accept your "I don't like cops" overstatement, I'm a boot cleaner. You are your own worst enemy and writing a step by step guide on how to lose the war of hearts and minds. I no more will accept extremes on the left than I will on the right.
That's just me staying on topic, this thread is about anti-Israel/US policy protests. There is a lot of misery and people being killed in this world, and I havent asked you to denounce any of it as a condition to take you seriously. Never will, I just expect the same in return.
I dont think anyone would say its good behavior. But its also definitely not the kind of behavior that warrants felony charges and branding someone a criminal. I think overcharging people with pretty minor things during a protest (that was peaceful until the cops showed up) is more chilling of speech than anything anyone could say on a message board. I distantly know someone who was arrested protesting at UF, the cops claimed they were attacked with a megaphone while they were attempting to arrest, and the charges ended up being dropped. Hopefully that happens here.
Hold on there. You were responding to me, and I didn’t call your friend, Allan, a punk (or any other name except for uninformed or brainwashed), nor did I say I would support the police beating him. Not even implicitly. You’ve got that fact just flat-out wrong.
I don't play this game. I didn't ask you to cry about the Palestinians, did I? Your depth of feelings have no bearing on the larger issue and neither do mine.
I am well aware that those sorts of actions do not advance their cause. Nor does the Columbia students breaking into buildings. But people are people. We act emotionally. Those emotional reactions are often not rational. If you look at any protest movement, even the successful ones, there were people who broke the law in ways that were not productive to the movement. There were people who said things that were not productive to the movement. I won't blind myself to reality and pretend that anything short of perfection is unacceptable. People screw up, especially 18-22 year olds. I will say that I apologize for my role in making this heated and for the insulting comments I made to you. I don't apologize for defending the character of a kid I know from personal attacks. If he did what he's accused of, he'll face consequences for it. But the poor choice a person makes at an emotional time when they're not remotely at their best is not the sum total of who they are. It's not an overstatement. I don't like cops. You can have a different perspective, but that doesn't change my view. I've seen too much bad behavior, I've seen too much violence, I've seen too many institutional coverups, I've seen too much of the terrible culture that sustains itself in those institutions, and I've seen too little accountability. You don't need to accept or like it. You're not changing my mind. I don't base my beliefs on what's popular and am fine not conforming with the consensus view. Does that mean I think we should all spit on cops? No. But do I understand why somebody would react that way to police, particularly police arresting peaceful protesters? Absolutely. When I watched cops brutalize students and professors, deep down, I was hoping somebody would kick the shit out of the cops who were inflicting violence, regardless of whether they were "just doing their jobs."
But you’re the one that decried the loss of Palestinian life. Here and in other threads. You are the noble pacifist. And yet, curiously, you don’t have that same zeal for the loss of Israeli life, not even when they are slaughtered, raped, and tortured.
No I'm not. I also think people shouldn't act like assholes, but I am not trying to make laws against it. That is the difference.
You cheered genocide. When it was pointed out that you did that, you referenced Darwinism, which, in this context, can only refer to Social Darwinism. I am not making you doing this against the law. I am just pointing it out. And people can choose to make any social judgments that they please based on that set of facts.
Thank you. I know we exchanged on many posts regarding your friend, who is one of the few that spells his name correctly.
