It's not hilarious that you can't figure out the difference between an event like a global pandemic that forced economic downturn on the world and a voluntary event like a President sabotaging the world economy in an attempt to accomplish absolutely nothing of value. You're ability to attempt horrible analogies is quite impressive though.

Unsurprising you missed the point about Covid. If President Trump was able to deliver a booming economy and stock market within months of Covid, don't you think it's at least plausible things might work out to our benefit as a result of the tariffs? I mean, I get that the knee-jerk reaction is convenient for you, because it gives you a mechanism to vent your TDS, but shouldn't we wait to adjudicate his performance on the economy and tariffs after some amount of significant time has passed so that we can accurately and more fully dissect the results? Considering that he was essentially batting 1.000 on the economy coming into his second term, it seems prudent to allow some time to pass before deciding his failure.

The Dow has rallied 1,100+ points since earlier this morning. It's certainly more than plausible that we'll do just fine with these tariffs.

Rallied 1,100 points from what change this morning? And from what changes on Thursday and Friday? That is quite a way to frame trillions of dollars in lost market cap.

Is this new-found perspective you've gained since starting the "Dow futures collapsing" thread under Biden? Maybe good advice considering Biden had the economy firing on all cylinders by the time he left office.

Totally based on faith. Its a cult. "We'll do fine".

The administration is doing a terrible job as reflected by the stock market. If anyone understood how these were going to help the economy the stock market would go up as people get ready to bask in the glory of the booming economy. They are divesting because they believe these actions are bad for business.

Ive talked to custom agents that dont know if the new tariffs in China stack on top of the existing 10% or if they are rising to 34% and already include the baseline. Its pretty much chaos at the customs offices as they are totally uninformed.

If I were to provide a real answer, I don't think it's too early to pass judgement on tariffs given the haphazard rollout:
    • Lack of consistent message on strategy - stop fentanyl? national security? retaliatory tariffs? eliminate trade imbalance?
    • Clarity on origin of numbers - explanation given that they were retaliatory tariffs but then we were given a formula with greek letters that was (1) based on trade imbalance instead of tariffs and (2) had extra symbols added that cancelled each other out...presumably to make it look more complicated than it was
    • Incoherent explanations for certain confusing parts of the tariffs: uninhabited islands were included because they're part of a specific trade zone? Or is it because they could be used as a loophole? Or maybe it's because they're the territory of a different country on the list? None of those hold up to scrutiny. Then we have Russia was excluded because they already have sanctions so the tariffs wouldn't be effective (although other sanctioned countries were subject to tariffs). Then it was because they're in the middle of a war and there are negotiations, but then why put tariffs on Ukraine?

Might want to check on where the Dow and more importantly the S&P 500 ended up today. Or should I say ended "down" today.

So, smart guy, how much of your net worth have you poured into the stock market to take advantage of this situation? 70%? 80%? You say the market is going down when it should be going up. Did you remember to put your money where your mouth is? Or are you all talk? If you really believe this is positive for the country, you should be fully invested in Trump's plan. Something tells me you are not.

Interesting. Time to flip some cash into the major indices?

Kevin O’Leary says Trump's been offered ‘off-ramp’ in bid to ease trade tensions

The European Union offered President Donald Trump an "off-ramp" to ease trade tensions and market volatility with their willingness to go zero-for-zero on tariffs on industrial goods, Kevin O'Leary told FOX Business on Monday.

"This is a really huge opportunity for Trump to find an off-ramp here in the administration," the "Shark Tank" star said, noting the EU's significance in automotive trade.

"Because if you think about how restricted it's been in Germany alone or in Switzerland or France about getting U.S. cars into those markets. They've been so punitively oppressed with tariffs, and they're willing to wipe those out."

O'Leary pointed to ongoing volatility in the global market, but said the EU's offer could mark the beginning of a "beautiful outcome" if the Trump administration seizes the opportunity. "The Eurozone has been brought to its knees," he continued.

Trump isn't destroying the country on purpose. He's an ignorant incompetent who geniunely believes that to Make America Great Again it's necessary to turn the clock back to the 1890s when tariffs were among their highest in American history, there was no income tax and the country experienced it's greatest concentration of wealth in history.
"In the 1890s, our country was probably the wealthiest it ever was because it was a system of tariffs," Trump, the GOP's presidential nominee, said. "We had a president, you know McKinley? Remember Mount McKinley? He was a very good businessman, and he took in billions of dollars at the time. We were a very wealthy country at the time." Mount McKinley, now officially known as Denali, was named after the 25th president.

Trump's remarks came as part of a broader discussion on manufacturing and job creation in the United States. The former president who has long been an advocate for protectionist trade policies has said that implementing tariffs would help bring manufacturing jobs back to America and boost the economy.

Trump remark about 1890s rebuked online: "Such ignorant thinking"

The irony is riveting, when you consider Biden claimed for so long he needed GOP support in Congress to attain operational control of the border. Trump is inaugurated. Within a few hours and without Congress, we had operational control of the border. I think a lot of this is projection, because their guy really was trying to destroy the country and I'm sure that's difficult for them to live down. They could just say Joe Biden was an asshole and get it over with, but pride gets in the way and here we are.

Like his best buddy Putin in dealing with Ukraine, Comrade Trump will pass on that opportunity since they are all corrupt and rip off artists, unfair counties who treated us badly by making us the most prosperous country in history or whatever bs the MAGots will eat up, and how tired we are of bailing them out. In response, Europe will take their goods and investments eastward to China. The world reserve currency will be switched to the yuan, but it will all be cool in MAGot world since they all have that Trump Coin, or whatever they call that fake crypto currency crap.

Biden was a zero and Trump a douche. See, no teams involved.

The border was largely solved by rhetoric. Loud and clear, you are not welcome here. Then a number of photo op deportations to hammer the point home. There will be lots of law suits, who knows how it will end up.

But they were going to pass a bipartisan border bill that Trump had killed because he wanted the issue.

The problem with the border is that both parties in congress wanted it that way, cheap labor and compassionate outreach.
