I'm glad it happened. I'm just happy we won't have to deal with hearing about him or seeing more diaper pics while they unravel God knows what $$ he milked out of the Ukraine and China. Occasionally presidents have crackhead kids. Shut the door and bury the key.
I think my posts in this forum make it pretty clear what I think about Velveeta Voldemort and his clown show fascists. I get why President Biden did this from a deeply personal level, but I’m still not okay with it. I wasn’t cool with Trump pardoned cronies and allies for clearly BS reasons. I hold my tribe to the same standards. Sigh.
I would amend your statement to suggest that there is no personal advantage to taking the high road, but not everything should be about personal advantage. Once we all decide that beating the other side is more important than maintaining the integrity of the system, no victory will be worth the two square inches of sod in which the winner’s flag is planted.
I agree. But it gets harder and harder to defend norms and institutions when voters reward the people who seek to destroy them.
Certainly you are aware that; 1) A sitting POTUS enacted a conspiracy to overturn an election. 2) A political-minded judiciary ensured there was not so much as a fair trial or hearing on this.....despite criminal indictments. 3) A majority of the electorate voted for that person to return as POTUS. So what "integrity of the system" do you speak of? There is no integrity of the system. There is simply the abuse and accrual of power, criminally or otherwise, which will be rewarded by voters - certainly at least by voters of one political party. So why should any other political parties follow the rules which are CLEARLY not respected by some (a majority)? We're in a new American era where it would simply be foolish to follow the rules -no, actually the laws- of our democracy. And if you're inclined to criticize me for merely pointing this out....make sure to also squarely focus on those who enabled this to happen. And continue to enable it.
There is some truth to what you're saying, but once one accepts that, how committed to democracy are you? If it's just about power and the rules don't matter, where does that inevitably lead?
Please. You base the word integrity on law, I base it on love. I say a father who wouldn't do everything legally possible to protect his wife and kids lacks integrity and pardons are 100% legal. Your on an island here counselor.
Charles Kushner. Perhaps you have heard of him? He's Ivanka's father in law and was just named by Trump to be the US ambassador to France. "WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called it “one of the most loathsome, disgusting crimes” he ever prosecuted as U.S. attorney. After Charles Kushner discovered his brother-in-law was cooperating with federal authorities, the wealthy real estate executive and father of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared, hatched a scheme for revenge and intimidation. Kushner hired a prostitute to lure his brother-in-law, then arranged to have the encounter in a New Jersey motel room recorded with a hidden camera and the recording sent to his own sister, the man’s wife. The scheme didn’t work. Kushner later pleaded guilty to tax evasion and making illegal campaign donations (Edit: and witness tampering) in a case tailor-made for tabloid headlines." Trivia question: Guess who pardoned him on December 23, 2020? Nice man. https://apnews.com/article/donald-t...ctions-crime-0155d15fa31108fd2c0e6360a3b597dd
It leads to precisely where we are. And it most assuredly wasn't me, or even people like me, that led us here. - We're about to see the likes of Kash Patel, directed by Trump of course, use the FBI in a fascist manner. - We're about to see the judiciary, at all levels, even more corrupted and employed as a partisan instrument. - We're about to see the entirety of our federal government not only corrupted, but used to further the partisan and personal agenda of a convicted and indicted criminal. With not a care or concern for constructively governing, or much less helping people. - We've clearly seen, and almost certainly will continue to see, about half our electorate and an entire political party laughingly continue to behave as criminal enablers. We're supposed to sit and watch and simply hope that the criminality stops at some point? When we've got a decisive blueprint that once allowed and enabled, it will only lead to further transgressions? Hopefully we only endure four years of it, and then....Ron DeSantis or Nikki Haley or Matt Gaetz or Mike Johnson will decide to follow the law again? I think we know that won't happen. All we have to do is watch what they and their voters have actively empowered over the last 8 years. Our nation is screwed. And it won't be by my doing, or those like me.
No, Tilly, I don't base it on law. The law allows what Biden just did. I base it on the notions of fair play and equality. I reiterate that you can feel however you'd like, but you shouldn't be in a position of public trust if you're willing to use your power to elevate your family over everybody else's. I'm not saying you're the only person who would do that. Rather, I am saying that it is appalling and corrupt when people do that. I'll happily live on my island. How can we demand that others follow the law when we refuse to hold our own families to it? What sort of legal system can you build off of that idea of "justice"? I love my family, but they should face the same legal system everybody else does. Yes, that is what the MAGA movement chose. Are you choosing the same?
The sudden turnabout is more likely do to something else coming out of the woodwork about Hunter Biden. I understand Biden doing this as a dad, but he's the same guy who unleashed the DOJ on Donald Trump.. filing charges that were misdemeanors after the statute ran as felonies on an ex-president. But I'm supposed to be cool with the dude pardoning his deadbeat son?
will those be in the first batch of charges to be dropped? maga will say that his prosecution is weaponization of the doj, therefore turnabout is fair play. Be prepared for audits
Despite repeated pledges and reassurances Pres. Biden wouldn't pardon his son, I always expected he would if Trump son. If KH had won, I suspect he would hae let Kamala do the pardon.
It has always been a great country, just shitty people running it, but President Trump is back to clean up this mess
