Duke was a young team that went up against an experienced defense. We play pretty good D too and Monday night's game will be #1 O vs #1 D just like tonight's game. Houston has the #9 O and we have the #10 D.
That's what I'm saying too. We can get physical and play D with the best of them. We aren't finesse like Duke.
Not as much as you will think. There were A LOT of Gator fans in the Alamodome tonight. I say it’s a 50/50 split and our fans are louder. We just are.
This may sound strange but with us playing Houston the Gators have the "star" player that might get preferential treatment from the refs. Nah. Never happens for the Gators.
Duke team was full of children who had no real experience. The were never punched in the nose virtually all season long, and when they finally were, they didn't have the experience to handle it, unlike mr @gatorade was so sure they would because he thought they were the best basketball team of all time!
We need to spend the entirety of the next practice basically A) Getting Richard's shot going and B) Practicing breaking the press.
C) Stop trying to force the overhead lob entry pass into the paint because it always ends up a turnover.
Key difference statistically is they are far more reliant on the three and don’t score as well in the paint (their 3pt % has been better than their 2pt % in 3 of their last 4 games). If defend the 3 as well as we did against Auburn (and really have done most of that season) and keep them off the offensive glass, they will struggle offensively. But Sampson and that defense are terrific, and their pace is glacial. Cannot waste possessions (turnovers, fast breaks, paint misses).
I was hoping for Duke for 2 reasons. First, our senior guards have all the experience and ability over Duke’s guards. In the tournament great guard play and maturity is usually the key to a championship. Secondly Duke depends on three freshmen for a lot of their workload. I thought in the first half of the Houston game Dukes freshman were gassed a little bit. I thought our bigs would wear them out. But to be honest, I did worry about Duke having a great advantage with the officials because they are the darlings of the NCAA
#4 Duke beat #1 Houston last year in the sweet sixteen. Maybe that gave Houston the edge last night. UF and Houston played TT Alabama Auburn this year. Houston lost all three. Houston 4 loses San Diego St Auburn Alabama TT
Exactly, Houston is extremely agressive defensively and our guards including Richard and Aberdeen need to hit their threes
Pundits just won’t let us be a true blue blood, of which in this century we are one, oh well, take it out on the whole D-1 schedule. One more chance.
Why does this keep happening, grateful? I think Duke was good. So did everyone else. They were the tournament favorite. What is the big deal that I am missing?
This is what I tallied for common games. Texas Tech: UH split, UF - W Alabama: UH - L, UF - W2 Auburn: UH - L, UF - W2 Tennessee: UH - W, UF - W2/L1
