I get it. But it would be hard for me to believe that a coach could have a losing record 3 straight years and be the right guy for the job.
On the surface, I agree with you, but personally, I am not sure Billy is to blame for the changes Florida had to undergo due to NIL and especially the damned Portal. Now, one might say that all schools had to make that transition, and that would be accurate, but I would also say that our difficulties were due to the fact that since 2010, we've become a mid-level P5 program, and that should not be completely blamed on Billy. This is not to mentioned having the nation's toughest schedule this year. If we had a typical SEC schedule, I too would expect Billy to have a winning season. But we generally have the SEC's toughest schedule because of our annual rivalry with FSU, drawing LSU from the former SEC West, and this year, adding both Miami and UCF, both P4 schools. It is a perfect recipe for disaster, and Billy knows it.
Brother Traub, if we lose the opener to Miami, then 5-7 would be a miracle. A loss to Miami could mean a low as two or three wins. We have to beat Miami
If we must, then yes. We fired the last coaching staff for a lot less than three consecutive losing seasons. I hope it doesn’t come to that anymore than you do, but if Napier doesn’t got it, then he doesn’t got it. Unlike some others on here, I see no reason to gift someone a fourth season after they’ve shown no improvement in three. I would rather kiss Kiffen’s arrogant ass and offer to rename the stadium after him than suffer a fourth season with Napier if this one is not much improved over the last two.
If we win 9, we would get in. I beg you to pick in 9 teams we win where we don’t have enough quality wins. It’s gonna be more like basketball. 8 is pushing it; we’re in with 9 with a few things needing to happen for not and it would take a lot of good teams sucking.
I’m not saying it as a fact, I’d seen several scales that say it and we were the only school because we have the toughest record. You certainly don’t know that you can just lay it down. Look at some of who those 8 could be and maybe think about it more.
No matter nil, or portal, or schedule, FOR THE MOST PART, a coach should beat the teams he is supposed to. Losing to the vandys, the arkys, the kentuckys, and the miss states? Those teams are not more talented than us.
8 wins and we Billy lovers can exhale a bit. 6 wins and that seat is blazing. I'm going 8-4 5-0 heading into the Tennessee game isnt crazy.
Granted fsu losing says nothing about who or where we are as a program this year but imagine that, it's almost as if the objective posters here who look at the totality of the situation were correct when they said fsu lost their entire offense and would not be worthy of their current hype. Now they might get better each week but history has shown their QB is limited and all of their NFL talent is gone so it's faaaaar from a given. Meanwhile, Florida brings back a 2nd year starting qb, much more talent at receiver, returning RBs, along with an experienced defensive head to lead what is widely accepted as a much more talented defense. Again, nothing proven about florida but the ingredients are there this year to do fine even with our schedule. If not, then it is truly on Napier as this is his team and there isn't any excuse not to show great improvement this year.
As well as being an opportunity to grow a backbone in the face of a difficult challenge. You know, kind of like life itself.
I can see most of this here, but if the strength of schedule doesn't matter in the SEC, then we should bring back the computers that rank strength of schedules so that Twinkie eaters don't slide in by feasting on unranked teams. I still think we should bring back the computer rankings system into the mix.
Been saying that for years. we should go back to BCS formula. The last iteration was perfect. Let that system determine the 12 teams. No need for a committee.
If the opponents are as good as the preseason projections, I would be ecstatic with a 6-6 record. We are not the Mighty Gators anymore. We have to crawl, then walk, before we run.
Might be the reality but I sure would like him to get to at least 7 to shut some of the noise down. 6 probably keeps his job but won’t be a smooth ride.
