Maybe the coaches should keep him in the games a bit longer... I know they rotate players to keep them from fatiguing, but he needs to get more time on the field.

Just out of curiosity, what's the criteria you're using to define "Gator-ness?" The fan/student/alumni/player/staff matrix has been discussed off and on for years, but your dismissal was so immediate and confident, it seemed like you had figured something out.

 

I’d like to see Mertz start and be given two series. If we’re scoring, keep him in. If not, then bring in DJ for a couple of series and see how he does.

Or, start both QBs and flare one of them out. Quick lateral pass and they have time to throw a long pass.

 

DJ might be a positive but that line could get him killed. Great tackles rember every sack they ever gave up. These dudes would have to have a large data bank. Hopefully he can take over and move more and take tge pressure off. If you can’t block the guy, at least guide him in a general direction. You at least gotta pick the side you’re getting beat on.

 

He’s never met Emmit outside of a tv camera being in his face I guess.

 

That’s likely exactly how it’s gonna go, imho. Billy said their plan all along was to play DJ in every game. Billy is big on hierarchy and seniority, he’s not going to just push Mertz out of the way. Their on the field play will take care of that, one way or the other. Fortunately, aTm is no offensive juggernaut, this should be a tight game. That will help Billy play it this way. If UF was playing Tennessee this Sat, it would change everything, imho. Scoring will be a must in that game, and DJ, the gunslinger, will need to be the primary QB.

 

Has Mertz been cleared? Participated in practice?

 

My understanding was he had to participate in one non-contact practice to clear the final hurdle. Supposedly that was going to happen yesterday. To my knowledge, nothing has been announced about that yet though.

Granted that was under Jimbo rather than Elko, who is 0-0 on the road to date. But here's to hoping he continues the trend he inherited.

 

Napier asked today if Mertz has been medically cleared, how it goes into dividing reps: "Right so obviously we're in new protocol tonight, so I think tonight at 10 after 8 we'll release the availability report, that'll have specifics about every player, not just Graham, but there'll be a number of other players out there."

Napier's asked if Lagway has earned first-team reps at practice: "Yeah of course he has. Yeah I mean there's no question about it. He's taking reps with both groups."

 

Samford counts just like McNeese State counts for aTm.

 

Actually, he never said anything about a fan or his mom. He said "some guy" talking about not listening to outside influences (like maybe trolls on a message board, or child-writers twisting facts on social media). I'm not saying he should have said even that to anyone but the team, but, that's not what he said.
