Pre-Game Discussion: FLORIDA at USCe

I get the criticism of UF's special teams, but it's not all bad.

Punting has been impressive, our punter can boot it a mile.
Punt and Kickoff coverage have been decent.
Mr. Smack seems to have FG kicking in order.

There is hope................

 

I do miss the days of punt and kickoff returns.

 

Yeah, I'm not buying all of this SCe hype.

I just don't see it. If the Gators lay an egg in SC after all that has happened this year, team building, woes on the road, beating Tenn, they have some serious problems. SC is not a good team. They do have a good QB in Rattler, but they have issues. I don't expect them to implode but I do expect us to win handily. If Napier decides to do a muchchamp and milk a small lead we could very well lose the game for sure.

We need to come out strong, don't let them hit the long ball out of the gate, keep pushing until we break them down and the crowd decides to get out of the rain. Just saying. Absolutely zero reason to lose this one unless we embrace mediocrity and substandard play!

Personally, I believe the Gator players, the coaches are moving forward and will fight with spirit and team unity. Indomitable spirit will win it. Might have a scare here and there.

This is the 'monkey finally dies from starvation and falls off the players back game'. HUGE turnaround in the psyche of the this years team and moving forward.

Pivotal game for the Gators!

With you Malscott, this is a pivotal game, albeit for both programs.

USCe had an extra week to prepare. I would love to see UF throw them off early by establishing the run (IF) they are stacking the box.

One of those "progress games" both teams need the W in the worst way.

USCe has played a decent schedule so they won't be intimidated, but then, so have the Gators.

I'm looking forward to Napier taking care or "road woes", need to get that done this Saturday.

This game brings a bit more excitement than Vandy at home, hopefully we can meet back on the post game thread buzzing about a victory!

I am picking Gators to win but……..if Special Teams cost us 7 points or more, we will not win the game.

 

I just want to go on record and state: I really, really, REALLY want a Gator win today. I'm sure some of you were curious as to what I wanted, so now you know!

So hope what you are saying is true? Based on what we have seen thus far this year I'm real skeptical.
What happened at Kentucky was embarassing. We were a team not ready or willing to play. We were going through the motions.

Don't mind losing if we leave everything on the field and are beat by a better team.

I don't know what team shows up to play today. The one that wants to play and win or the same team we've seen on the road so far this year.

I'm hoping they show us something today!

 

At some point you have to be able to have someone who understands that you place your feet on the ten yard line and get out of the way if it goes over your head. Simple concept but doesn’t happen. Blocks in the back on probably 75% of our returns and the ability to go past the 25 yard line on. kickoff return is about 10%. Most of the time an attempted kickoff return starts at about our own 10 yard line. Having a good punter or kicker is probably mostly because you have a good player not a good coach. The team concepts of our special teams including counting to 11 or recognize matching numbers is still abysmal.
