Thanks to the folks that have posted in this first week of practices. I'm away from Gainesville on family business but hope to be back with some observations by next weekend. My bias tends toward: How good and deep is our pitching and defense. From what I've read, it appears that the hitters are a bit ahead of the pitchers at this point- which is likely par for the course given that our top guys are not throwing flat out this early and batters have a good sense of what's coming.

Lots of fastballs so far just to get thru their inning or two in the two that I've been to. Its mainly been about locating their fastball at this point. But at least we have seen lots of action on the base paths. Jameson was the only pitcher that I saw throwing breaking ball after breaking ball. Probably because his fastball was near 6 feet off the ground.

Wow I haven't even read the inning by inning but its the first experiment with the lineup from Sully this fall. Some examples are Robertson in RF, Thomas at 3B playing with Shelton at SS, Donay at 1B, Shelnut back at 3B. I'll drop some extra thoughts later on in the lineup thread.

GatorGal, good to hear Shelnut is still hot going 3-3 with a homerun. The practice I watched he was getting the barrel on everything.

Amazing what a battle for “your” starting position brings out in a player. Would love to see this carryover to season.

Matherly, was surprised to see Christian Rodriguez get his fair share of cuts in the batting cage during the practice I watched. At 5’11” and 215 he is rather thick looking, a power hitter! Also hoping he finds his way into the rotation, probably weekday but found it interesting he got to take his cuts too.

I noticed that about Rodriguez on Friday as well. He came thru in one of the last groups with mostly freshmen and backups though but at least he is getting an opportunity. Now if he starts hitting with Cags, Kurland, Shelnut, Heyman or even Donay then maybe they are onto something.
