Yes but their coaching staff can manage it apparently. Have watched a ton of football in my life and never have seen this penalty. It is something that is easy to control from a coaching standpoint, don't make a 19yr old kid remember to change numbers. Simply don't put them in that situation to begin with.
It’s not. Last year at this time Napier was coaching Mullen’s team. By definition the coaching process is different
I only saw one play last night where it appeared he held the ball a tic too long and that was when the end ran around 76 and came free right in his face and dropped him. I thought he should have seen that coming since it wasn't from the blind side.
What? I'm a agreeing with you, different team. Can't expect progress with a different team already, it's only been 1 off season.
Yes from a player standpoint, but the coaching is the same and we see the exact same mistakes as last season. Guess we will find out a ton during the TN game.
Is this one of those, "we're getting better and better" type of Muschamp quotes. We have all went through this before and know how this story plays out...sigh.
If I were the coach, it may have happened also but I promise it would never happen again on my watch. I don’t like it in the first place because I think it’s just stupid in the first place. I would not be coerced into that dumbshit a second time. What good it does for some kids ego just isn’t worth it no matter what. The only way I’d allow it is if neither kid ever had a zero percent chance of being on the field together. No jersey swapping. That’s just a chance of error that should never even be a possibility.
I think we can get behind the notion that a team takes on the temperament of the coach(es). We thought last year's defense was too analytical and so this year should be better with more passion. It was...to a degree...but it did not do enough. And if the temperament comes from Napier, and this is his demeanor behind the scenes also, well then...
I think there were two weird things that happened. First and foremost, I don't think either Marshall or Wilson are primary players on punt receiving. Either one could have been brought in for whatever reason and nothing would have transpired. But BOTH just happened to be in on the down. Kind of baffling. Even still, you HAVE to have a special teams coach who KNOWS the pitfalls and makes sure it does NOT occur. Someone needs to be held accountable for this gaff.
Billy said it was on the coaches during his press conference because two different folks didn't communicate.
Same result as some games last year but I don’t see many similarities. Last year running was our strength and we had no short passing game. This year we have three offensive linemen taking their first snaps together on a until that cohesiveness is the most important variable. Actually four including Slaughter and false starts were as big a factor as anything else. We were fielding punts inside our ten multiple times, once at least by a freshman. Brain fart after brain fart is what killed the game. We got them to punt six times , had time of possession, first downs, total yards all on our side. Zero running games and still have those stats. They are a veteran team and we are a young team with a thrown together offensive line. Experienced players showed. We had several chances to get in the game and shot ourselves in the foot every time. We looked like a young team playing veterans because that’s exactly what it was.
I’d like to see the game roster with no dup numbers, but I also understand that isn’t necessarily the way it is in college. I’d definitely like to see no dup numbers within the same position groups to avoid a situation like this in the future. Apparently Marshall, was supposed to change into a 33 jersey on ST’s. Put him in 33 permanently. The other 33 is a RSSR-WR who has never seen the field. I don’t like what happened and would like to see a plan in place where it’s not even possible in the future, but I’m not going to act like it’s unfathomable, could never happen to anyone else, and it is just the absolute dumbest thing in the world. Two guys wearing the same number is not uncommon at all, and one changing jerseys for st’s is not THAT uncommon.
