Dude - we have one of the best running games in the country. We didn't adjust to their all out effort to stop our bread and butter plays. We just didn't want to, for whatever reason, run the ball with AR. That almost seems to me to be a corporate decision and I don't get it. Our special teams and discipline is not there yet. We have a tough game coming up this Friday. We'll show better but we better keep it close in the first half because we won't have Miller to help stop FSU's strong run game.
There is nothing exciting about this offense. It's literally built for a G5 program. Sideline screens to big, possession-type receivers, don't work in this league.
Arrogant UF fans, meaning almost everyone on this board, made so much fun of LSU for hiring Brian Kelly. Not only did Kelly punk Napier, he also beat Saban and has his team going to Atlanta. Same with Chip Kelly. His team will finish ranked. We will be lucky to finish with a winning record. Napier looked incompetent today and kept throwing the ball when AR was so inconsistent. AR just doesn't have it.
Long time Gator fan too. I just had high hopes for Napier and he may eventually become a top coach. Unfortunately, the Gator athletic leaders seem happy to take in money for the Athletic Department and not so worried about winning big. Just content to develop some players and develops some coaches.
Billy got beat up and had his lunch money taken today by Clark Kent, sorry, Clark Lea. Vanderbilt beat the mighty gatas, drink up and let that sink in..
400 yards passing, but only 2.1 YPC. The turnovers balanced out on paper, but the timing was a killer for us. Still need at least two more recruiting classes before this team is competitive.
I saw a total team loss. Offense (AR especially) was in a funk, besides the two long throws. The defense shot itself in the foot in old ways (stopping the run) and new ways (bad, untimely penalties), and the not-so-special teams were...consistently not-so-special. Not once did I see where the minds turned on and took the game. They were waiting for a VERY mediocre Vandy team to lose the game. If there is a silver lining in this game, and it isn't a bad one at all, is that we weren't going anywhere this year and if this game gets them pissed for the FSU game, then losing this and winning next week is better than winning this and losing next week. Obviously, we have to play with passion next week and not angry-at-life, like FSU likes to do from time to time. And yes, this has a "lost-game edge" to it, but it would not hurt my feelings if AR decides to move on in any fashion he wants. It feels like this team is going to be held hostage by AR's potential greatness. I just wished Kitna had gotten into a game or two when AR was in a mental funk and the game was either definitely a win (USF) or definitely a loss (UGa), for no other reason than to feel better about future options at QB. The season is what it is. Win next week and it isn't SO bad.
Very deceptive stats. Tentative running. Sliding shorter than Chris Leak. Horrible decisions on the read option. Terrible passes on what you call drops, 2 pt conversion was LATE and BEHIND. 4 misses to wide open receivers that ma have scores, 2 definitely were. Vandy dared UF to beat them with AR throwing e ball and e couldn't do it. Vandy.
He missed 3 td passes (at least).. overthrew bowman twice, underthrew shorter.. constantly throwing behind the receiver. hail mary thrown out of the endzone. i believe passing was a problem, along with D and special teams. Play calling was sub-par. AR also slid when no one was near him. I really don't know why AR is not running more.
Bad all the way around. This team does seem to bounce back, though. Hopefully we see it against fsu next week. Wouldn't shock me a bit. Just wish we had Miller for 4 quarters.
You have a good point. Football acumen and X and Os matter 1000000000x more than anything around culture and talking a good game.
Maybe if the previous staff recruited something other than big possession receivers it would actually work. I think one of the biggest issues it that AR just isn’t a great passer. Penalties were also a huge issue in the game. They killed big running plays and extended half of Vandy’s drives.
