Well what do you expect him to say:
    Ron Zook - "It's Correctable"?

Myself I always thought Coach John McKay was the greatest post game interview:

Execution? Exactly, we should execute some of these players...lmao.

Napier is to classy to call out players.

I think you are giving them far too much credit. They are not 24/7 babysitters. The single most reliable way they control off field problems is by choosing who makes the team and even that is a best guess.

The majority of the current team is not even theirs so while the fact that they are largely a responsible group is good it also is not due to the current staff.

Making sure they show up at class, complete their coursework, etc. They can claim credit for that.

Maybe with the oddly timed 4th down calls, but otherwise he appears fairly conservative in play calling.

I dont know what to think of the play calling from game to game. I mean LSU he takes a shot first play, same with EWU. Utah game he pressed all the right buttons, I mean I think that game just set up us expectations wise for something we couldn't deliver week to week. Kentucky and USF were just weird game plans, some of that I think was a QB who just lacked confidence.

I think he knew yesterday we had to control the ball, to help the defense, and their D line just caused havoc the entire first half. We just never really found a groove, had a nice drive to start the 3rd quarter, only team to score a 3rd quarter TD on uga. So you know UGA makes the right adjustments coming out of half, maybe thats a positive sign we can schematically compete even with less talent.

The word conservative is thrown out a lot because we aren’t flashy on offense. The more appropriate term would be efficient but we need a 65% plus completion average to make it work. We also need to have a QB who can anticipate the window not react to it being open.

a small sample size would be the EW game where kitna made the intermediate throws on time while AR loaded up and threw downfield to wide open guys b/c we out matched the defenders (the only game all season that was the case)

It looks like BN is on a multi step plan. Recruit better personnel, fundamental toughness in the run game, become efficient with moving the ball, then open up the offense with better talent. This is what Saban did as the game evolved.

FTR we have played the top 3 teams in the east and their QBs are well past the average age of a college QB and it shows in their performance. Expecting similar performance from AR this year or even next probably isn’t realistic, hopefully a huge jump from him is possible if he stays. His athleticism will only get him/us so far (think H Hooker last year) good defenses will scheme to eliminate his legs and he must IMPROVE his passing.

One word of caution all of our championship QBs won championships at the HS level they knew/demonstrated how to win. They had leadership in their DNA fans are hoping AR can do the same. He didnt even finish his HS seasons as a Jr or Sr due to injury, all the while being one of the biggest in the field.

Hmmmm. Someone recently pointed out..'this is a message board, right' and used that as justification for their whining. Then someone points out that poster used an incredibly poor piece of evidence for their whining by claiming 7 penalties were somehow a sign of how poorly the team played when most UGA games the past decade we approach twice that number. Then we see the sad 'justification' for that 7 penalty comment. You would have been much better off admitting the 7 penalty statement was a mistake and then turned to the poor tackling technique that still seems leftover from past D-Coordinators. That would have been a much better example for you to bring up.

I think we can all agree there is still plenty of work to be done. I am still hoping Napier will get them there and I see clear improvements in areas but I also see areas that have not improved much from past seasons. I choose to focus on the progress.

I guess it depends on your definition of conservative is. AR was clearly dinged up after he jammed his knee on the one play …so he was asked to work within a pocket. There were some guys open and he was reading it right and taking shots but just not placing it where it needed be. And as far as the run game, we had to run between the tackles because of UGA’s lateral speed defensively and our guards are the strength of the OL. We just weren’t able to break one loose. I thought the play calling was pretty sound for the most part.

I agree with you on your AR comments.
However, on defense, you have to put the players in a position to grow and to win. The Gator defenders will do neither by playing deep drops and playing off the line. The other defenses know our defensive weaknesses and strategy. To make matters worse, our defenders are not that good with closing the gap and making open field tackles. This is a big source to the Gator 3r Down defense problems.

You really don't get that 7 penalties is a nice improvement?? Just saying you could have backed your claim with a much better example. I don't disagree with your statement that there were breakdowns yesterday. The penalties were not one of them. 'You chose poorly.'

Take Burney as an example. He just grinds and grinds some more. Does the best he can and should be lauded. Burney played great yesterday. The same people throwing him under the bus earlier are now griping about other stuff. Punks. The types of fans who ruin sports.

When we have players like Bowers at every position like they do, we will be relevant again. If it is to happen, It'll take a few years.

Watching things develop is half the fun. The journey is the thing. The destination is a nice payoff but so much better if it's not overnight. Butthurt whining and crying and pointing fingers is panty-waste behavior.

That is why I specifically referenced off field issues.

Your point is valid but you are changing the subject.

Ok..did the players get in any off the field problems this year? I remember game 1 suspensions every year from previous coaches ..none this year
Look even the players have admitted diffences..about being accountable off the field..being a leader..and I believe the current staff has something to do with it

Not trying to be involved in your debate. But one thing about penalties is, if you can take chunks of yards routinely, as does Tennessee, penalties really are not such a detriment. But when we cannot pass the ball and a defense is tough against our run game, penalties are particularly damaging to our efforts. It's much more difficult for us to make up 5-10 yards because our offense is not nearly polished enough and our staff seems to call odd plays situationally.

I realize this is off-topic but I think the coaches on the other side of the field must have wondered what our group of coaches is trying to do. Yes, I know we started to close the gap yesterday but then georgia opened up the can. It's like they slowed down, let us get close, then turned on the after burners to humiliate us.

Exactly, I don't know why people keep downing the fanbase like any other big school would be happy with 4-4 and 1-4 in conference play. lol

True but okay, some of the teams with the most penalties are top of the SEC at the moment. So? Admittedly, penalties can stall drives and we don't want that, obviously. By what seems to be your reasoning, Tennessee is a bad team and their coaches doing their student athletes a disservice because they have quite a lot of penalty yards per game.

Okay, OL is a strong unit. But one could reasonably ask, why the OL, if made of "a bunch of nobodies", is a strength but other units with stronger rosters from a recruiting standpoint are under performing or underutilized? Fair question. I do realize we have a QB issue and how we all wish staff could transform that. I think Kitna might be better but we have a similar situation to the mullen era when he wouldn't let go of his hope to transform Franks.

Would you mind taking a moment to link to all the illegal and criminal activity our players were involved in last season? And, I think it's reasonable to attribute some of that to the colossal mismanagement by our former staff's abandonment. So to say behavior is improved is a reasonable expectation under any staff because most of last season, we did not have a staff. You make it sound as if last season our team was under arrest often and I don't recall too many major incidences, but that's my faulty memory probably.
Are you kidding me? I realize you did not intentionally mean to slap our roster. But you did. Run game- for the most part is markedly improved and that's in large part because of the staff. Pass game, defense, STs? I guess at the moment you have the luxury of blaming that on the former staff's recruiting. But there are some on-field issues that seem to be part of the staff's responsibility, obviously.
Nothing you mentioned as improvement was not a reasonable expectation. lets just hope like hell our staff can handle next week's match up.

The one thing that has me giving Napier more time is how he takes responsibility for when things go bad. Mullen took responsibility when we won but he threw everybody else under the bus when we lost. As others have said, it's the 1st offseason I can remember this Millennium where we didn't have any player issues. No scooter accidents that I can remember, no discharging guns in the parking lot, no smoking pot, no passed out in a car at a light, sexual misconduct, heck not even coaches showing up at frat parties.

Also, for the first time I saw more effort from the defense. It was Trey Dean's best game all year and the 1st time I thought everybody played better than Miller. We also found our kick returner.

I agree with your first part. As for uga, we rallied, they answered, that's what great teams do. We need a better D and QB to counter.
