Post Game Post -- FLORIDA 45 at Mississippi State 28

Mertz is the clear favorite to start.
Lagway has the tools in spades over Mertz but needs to be groomed.
I think the way they are being used now is pretty wise.

 

Our defense is really bad.

 

Lol... he's going to be a great one, one day.

 

Douglas isn't good either. Now that we see Bridges in more than 2 plays a game we see he is our best S, best Star, and 2d best cb. The use of personnel by this staff has nothing to do with winning games.

 

You completely lost me at DJ Douglas, his play has been very poor.

 

About the game: I did notice one play that I liked. Now, some of you know that I'm not a fan of using two tight-ends to block when you can just add another O-lineman for a better result. And that was one way we were using the 12 personnel in the recent past. Napier used the 12 personnel the best way he could in this game, and we got a touch-down using the tight-ends as receivers instead of blocking lineman.

The play to Hanson was a seam-route right down the middle of the field, and it was a perfect call and play-call by Napier and perfect execution By both Graham Mertz and Hayden Hansen... just the way it's supposed to work.

I do like it when we use bother tight-ends as receivers in the 12 personnel, but I do NOT like using them as strictly blockers on pass plays, as I have explained in the past.

 

Agree, I was going to say Russell and Leaf became busts as pros, so 1 of these 3 is not the same as the others.

 

Ha! Make sure to score every time we get the ball and just flop for several entire series to save our energy and avoid injury. Then we' d have lots in the tank for late in the game to get some stops when their offensive starters are tired from running for touchdowns all game!

 

I don't know why we can't get a hand on the running back until 5 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

 

Two goal line stops is impressive for this defense regardless of outcome.

 

We are UNDEFEATED on the road this year!

 

If so, should staff play him? An injured Castell is our best option?

 

FLORIDA: Had to have it. 44 physical up front. Too many arm tackles at 2nd & 3rd level. 88 flashed. Too much h free lancing up front. Gives you some TFL, but also gives the explosives. DBs played ball well. 10 played hard. 24/34 had some good pass rush reps. QB efficient. Nice job with legs. 1 ran hard. Would have liked to see more down the field. TEs played well. OL was ok. Nice job out personel-ing them. You get backs looked good. 6 really good. Plan seems simple but could be it just didn't need to extend. 3rd down success kept them on the field.

 

Or why we always seem to be out of position with no one in the area of a wide open receiver, etc, etc, etc....

 

Are we playing some kind of zone that, I don't know, staffs we play know where the DBs ... aren't? Would we be better playing some kind of man only? Thought we were playing man often.

 

We have recruited a bunch of T-Rex’s at DL and they just can’t grasp the RBs.

 

We did beat the only team in the SEC that currently has a worse record than we do ! ! ! We cracked the Top-15 in the SEC! Woohoo!

 

Don't do that with our defense. We have defensive linemen who are so slow they are lucky to be able to touch the O-lineman in front of them before the end of the play. We should probably sneak an oxygen tank on to the field to help them catch their breath.

 

Is that they are slow, or is it how they are being coached to play? I am sure you have seen the posts about the DL being taught to control the OL (i.e. stand up at the snap) instead of firing off to create penetration. We don’t have a Mount Cody type player who can absorb blockers to create openings for LB, but it seems we are trying to get our DL to play like that.

That is why I circle back to this being more a scheme issue and a lack of flexibility in adapting the scheme to the players at hand. Additionally, if the players aren’t performing, they seem to stay out there instead of being shown the bench. Rarely do we see the best performing players remain on the field.
