The Big Ten is just as rotten and corrupt as the SEC and we would once again be on the wrong side of the entrenched power schools.

Everyone knew going into the season that the OL was likely going to be below par. The DL on the other hand was touted as a solid unit and a strength of the team. That has been far from the case, imho. They get virtually no push from the interior 3 and the tweeners on the outside are not fast enough or big enough to get to the QB. This is a line of scrimmage league and we ain’t very good on either.

Skink, it was still early in the game. We had plenty of time to re-group. I agree with you that our team or coaches didn't lack heart. We simply were playing a far better team.

Of this I agree. But willful collusion and conspiracy against Florida? Nah.

You and I view the SEC similarly. As my screen name portrays, I am an eighties Gator and I remember what they did to us in 1984. They do dislike us because we ARE different than the rest of the SEC. Much of our student body has northern roots, unlike most SEC schools, particularly 40 years ago. We have long been seen as cocky, arrogant (Dan Jenkins' quote preceded the Pell Era, let alone the SOS era). We disrespected the game by wearing shorts and t-shirts or tank tops, while most of the SEC wore their Sunday best. Even to this day, the players and many coaches wear bangs, whereas the Gators who do the same tend to be from north of Orlando (IOW, the South).

When Pell slapped them in the face and proved Bryant's point about "the sleeping giant" at Florida, the rest of the SEC was shocked, and many were outraged. Thje Executive Committee voted 5-1 for Florida to retain the title, but the SEC presidents voted 6-4 to strip it (5-5 would have retained it). Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Auburn led the way, IIRC, but interestingly, Alabama and Ole Miss voted for retention. Saw this blurb in a Bleacher Report article, and it holds true:

"It was a bitter pill to swallow. But this should not mean we forget that team. The 1984 Florida Gators gave us our first taste of what it’s like to be a Gator today. They gave us our future. After that team, we knew it could be done. Gator fans and boosters have never settled for mediocrity since.

There used to be a “1984, 1985” marked on the façade at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium that has since been taken down. It wasn’t taken down because we have forgotten. It was to make room for the many championships won since. We just needed the room. We have the 1984 and 1985 teams to thank for that.

Except when we brought more than 5 we still didnt get to the QB. Reminds me of the bama offenses in sabans first 10 years their QB never felt pressure.

We dont collapse the pocket our big bodies are plodders and not good at lateral movement or maintaining their position against the run. They play way too high not at pad level.

We still lack lower body strength and the ability to uncoil at impact hence the blocking magnet we activate at contact and we cant disengage when blitzing.

I think the DL is average to slightly above average for normal Florida standards but the talent and coaching along the lines at UGA and Alabama is so much higher it’s almost like a different league.

It's all a matter of who you bring and when you bring them. I did notice that our "delayed" blitz was far too delayed to be of any use in a few occasions.

There is NO one type of defense or one size fits all when rushing the offensive line. There are too many variables to get into right now. But their O-lineman held our D-line all game long and that we the real problem with getting to their QB.

And I am not impressed with the way we're teaching our DBs and that schemes on the back end. Their receivers were open all game long.

If we rush 5/6 or more we have to make sure we play man press on the back end, and we did not do that.

They protected Ohio St against Wisconsin in the fourth quarter when it was a one score game last night. It’s the same crap everywhere.

Yeah we’d be fighting the exact same discrimination in the Big 10. We’d tear up the ACC

The worst moment for me was when we went to review of whether we made the first down. I am usually pretty good at calling the replay and I figured it was taking too long to be a first down so figured it would be 4th and inches. Come back and see the ball spotted almost a yard short. Even this morning I cannot comprehend that.

You simplify the the issue too much every dline gets held. Most still have sporadic success regardless of if they base out if an odd or even front. We haven't all season because of personnel and developmental issues.

Good post Eighties. I’ll only disagree with 2 points:

    1) it was Bama, Auburn, and Mississippi State who voted with us. Ole Miss and the others voted against us.

    2) yes it is a conspiracy against UF. I knew the minute the 5 minute commercial break ended and that damn ref was still reviewing it that we were screwed. Any play so close to call that they need 5 minutes of review never gets reversed. Hell, nowhere do they even review that long.

You are using a big curve, maybe the last 10 yrs but last 40 years they would be bottom quartile

Yeah, I was shocked at the spot too.
SEC refs protecting the undefeated SEC team. That SEC team makes it into the playoffs. More money and prestige comes into the SEC. The decision makers see that. It’s a way to make sure you have job security.

Yes. Been doing that for years. It’s a backdrop for the guys on the field, not cover from people in the stands.

Many of yesterday’s game were that too. They were tall giant shields being held up by several people. These were more to block eyes in the staff boxes upstairs. It was very noticeable.

yep! And let’s not even talk about our DL against UGA’s OL….we can’t even stand up to the Utah’s, Kentucky’s, and probably soon to be Arky, Missouri, and LSU OL’s of the world. Forget trying to compete against ELITE OL’s lol

the attempted end around and the 4th down call were 2 of the worst called plays I've seen in gator history. The end around killed all offensive momentum. I had no issues going for it on 4th down, but run the damn ball up the middle, worst called play and never had a chance. We had no chance at that point, and the kids new it.

were we going to win, probably not, but his gimmicks aren't working.
This team has zero identity and has failed to take steps forward with each game now for 2 seasons.
The Tenn game clearly i is the outlier - we got destroyed by a terrible kentucky team. Vandy and South carolina are terrible as well.

no way we beat LSU, mizzou or florida state.
