I’m coming around to the opinion that in spite of some erratic play Anthony Richardson carried the offense last year. Now we have an average qb, a new O line, and a defense that has stepped up from terrible to average. Why would anybody think they are going to look particularly good this year? It actually could have been worse. At least the offense moved the ball and the defense played serviceably. But I’ve seen no reason to think it’s going to be anything than a mostly ugly season.
Know what I hate? Posters I've never seen on this board pissing and moaning about the Gator's performance. Headed to the premium forum to get some real perspective.
Was going to respond to the penalty for 2 players with the same number thread but it is locked. Many on that thread said “this did not cost us the game”. They are correct. And, you simply cannot have those kinds of errors in a major college program. That is indicative of coaching failure. At the highest level you simply cannot have, nor accept, that type of stupid failure. It indicates a lack of attention to detail and commitment to perfection that is the goal of champions. Is this an indictment of BN? Today, yes. Long term, no. Not giving up on the guy, but he cannot accept that level of incompetency in his staff/system.
I just watched a game tgat we could have won against a decent team and it had nothing to do with X’s and O’s In my mind.
Hi. My name is Bate and I have a problem. I believe the clinical term is off-season eternal optimism. I have the ability to believe that although not much has changed other than losing talent to the NFL that we can be much improved over what we were. I don’t know how to stop.
Once It was our down years post Urban which let the Noles rebound. Unfortunately we may be starting the trend again. If we lose to UT and they beat LSU they’re going to be picking our recruits off quickly. I’d like to be wrong but…we aren’t looking well coached in many spots.
Typical first game overreactions by many on this board. We beat Utah last year and everyone thought we were back. This loss was expected by almost everyone outside of Gator Nation. Doesn’t mean we can’t have a successful season, which for me would be six wins. I saw a lot of things to be concerned about tonight but nothing that is not correctable - except perhaps the talent on the OL.
That's the ugly part of this. If the program looks like it has a coach that makes the players look worse than they are, the recruits are not going to want to touch UF
Yup. We could all just stick our heads in the sand like our coaching staff and eventually the problems will just go away.
Mertz exceeded my expectations. So did our defense. Offensive line might be a struggle this year but they’ll improve as we go. Keep it positive, or at least make an effort to look for it
I'll try and put a positive spin on the problems David Letterman style. 10. The offensive did a great job running out the clock with the score 24-3 Utes. 9. 3 + 3 only equals 5 yards not 6. 8. CBN remained calm throughout the game. 7. Number 16 on our defense only whiffed at two plays that were TDs that I saw. 6. We've got a much needed 10 whole days to get ready for McNeese. 5. Our defensive linemen have extra time to pick up speed when they run around before the snap not knowing where to go. 4. DJ Lagway has a great chance to be our Game 1 starter next year. 3. Our O-Line has lots of room for improvement. 2. We should hopefully play at least 5 teams this year that are not ranked when we face them. 1. Next year can't get here soon enough.
