Probably none, but also probably none of Utah’s players either. Now compare Utah’s recruiting classes/rankings to UF’s for players participating today. I don’t think we will like that answer.
In running formations, sure florida did not open many holes. But you could still call a draw play every now and then in all of those passing plays in the 2nd half. There was no semblance of a balanced offensive attack.
defensively it was a decent performance minus the bomb to start. Shemar James looked pretty good. offensively, we don't have any cohesive identity. We don't appear to have a hurry up package or much sense of urgency and we get too cute with play design way too often. Absolutely no reason to wait to get Pearsall involved till 35 minutes into the game. OL was pretty bad in pass protection but we don't do them (or Mertz) any favors with the slow developing play action/pump fake stuff our coaches love to call so much. it could've been a lot closer game if Mihalek hits the FG and we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot over and over again. We have some solid players, but man this coaching staff has a lot of work to do, and this looks like it's gonna be a frustrating season. Whatever....lets go Gators, put a whooping on some Cowboys next week and forget this one.
As of today probably none, maybe in a few weeks maybe one might emerge. This team has better talent than last year but that is not saying much. It will take 2 really good recruiting cycles to get comparable talent. If the 2024 pans out you still need another one for 2025.
Everything you mentioned there I would put under the “coach” part, which I questioned his abilities for. The CEO part is getting the organization on one page, lining up all the off the field stuff. Everything dealing with football games being played I consider coaching.
The OL and special teams killed us tonight. We had zero chance to establish the run because anytime we got a manageable 3/4th down there was a dumb penalty. Which is a shame because we actually had a chance to wear down that defense. I don’t know who the “game changers” coach is but I hope they forgot him in SLC. This game was right on part with the Vandy game last year.
Defense looked “better” after that 1st play disaster, but Utah might not have the firepower to hang 50 on us like some other teams on our schedule might. So by “better”, maybe it’s achieved mediocrity instead of being absolutely horrible as in Mullen’s last 2 years. That isn’t much to hang our hats on, and UT could maybe still hang 50 on us. Unfortunately this offense seems… actually terrible. We do have a few solid playmakers at skill spots. But man, with a “game manager” QB (with history of INT issues) and a suspect OL. Could be a loooooong season.
UF hired a 29 year old unproven DC to coach in the SEC, that says it all. Let’s pay him for learning on the job. Good idea.
We have an average OC/QBC, period. Don't expect to win anything as long as it's the same OC/QBC on the sideline. What worked at Sunbelt may not, and probably will not, work at UF
The absolute refusal to even try to establish a downfield passing game is so frustrating. Another season of stacked boxes and trying to smash a round peg through a square hole. Any D coordinator worth a damn will blitz and stack the box against us until we show any ability to punish it.
Special teams is an total disaster, when your plan is a slow ass plodding offense you need to freaking make special teams a priority. 4 losses in a row now, and the same things wrong despite 8 months to improve stuff.
