Because in years past, our defense would have still sucked against backups. We definitely played better (yes, it was a low bar) on defense last week. Now, is that an anomaly, or is it a trend? We don't know for sure yet, but hopefully the latter.
Because with just a little scrutiny and nuance we should be able to understand that a new DC combined with a youth movement as well as a couple new transfers won't be perfect in their first game but there was still noticeable improvement in things like tackling, situational play calling and results. I'm as critical about the offense as many but I don't think I'm unrealistic about the overall situation. Like many others, I think we need an OC and more attention to special teams but I don't have many complaints about all other aspects of the program right now. I'm far from a pumper and I'm definitely quicker with the trigger about the offense after seeing the fanbase call out issues with Champ and mac's offenses, granthams defense and mullens recruiting early and often while those issues festered and eventually sank each regime.
In computers, we say, “That’s not a big, that’s a feature.” Maybe only having 8 players on the field caused them to miss.
Gee let's see in 2022 Utah had 446 yards of total offense including 230 rushing yards at an average of 5.9 YPC. In 2023 Utah had 270 yards of total offense with only 105 yards rushing at an average of 3.5 YPC. Maybe that is why people think the defense played a lot better.
No doubt. It’s a tough high pressure job and we had idiots complaining about Spurrier and Urbs and they have both said it affected them. If people complain about those guys, they are brain dead but likely still voicing their opinions loud and clear.
AR had to just take over and run the ball play after play for the go ahead score. Then we had to have an interception in the endzone to stop their offense tgat was walking through us the second half.
I have to laugh at the irony here -- you're actually the classic example of crawling out of the woodwork to bitch. Never around for any discussion, never offering one positive thought regarding our team, just show up when it's time to bitch. Where were you when we upset Utah last year? How about when we clobbered South Carolina? Nothing to bitch about = nothing to say, right walrus? But just bitching isn't enough for you either -- you hit multiple threads with the same bitching about the same things. Over and over. Your incessant bitching is every bit as obnoxious to many of us as our defending Napier against your attacks is to you. Posting critical analysis or reviews of our team is certainly warranted at times, and this is one of them for sure. We've got some very harsh critics here, but not all their posts are bitching. That's one thing -- you on the other hand do nothing but bitch. To me you're the classic definition of a troll.
Damn it's Thursday of a new game week folks, let the last game go! Time to move on to see what changes the coaching staff put in place for the upcoming game. Even I'm growing tired of the rehash!
It’s time for a walk through for the Tenn game. Let’s hope we see some things ironed out. I don’t expect to see a different team on the field as it is the same roster. Baby steps in tge right direction is to be expected though.
It was saying the game changer had an old roster with Wilson listed as #21, thread discussing it name changed.
To add to this: Utah had more possessions in this year's game, and better average starting field position, compared to 2022. This is why defensive efficiency stats are more popular than blindly looking at points scored, they capture these other factors. More possessions means UF's offense has more chances to score too, which is what was needed this year once UF fell behind. The short possessions and punts the defense forced in the second half of this year's game (vs zero 2nd half punts by Utah last year) gave UF a chance to come back. It's still fair to ask if a moderately better defensive performance on the road against the backup QB is better than a home performance against the starting QB, but I thought the defense certainly looked better this time around.
Thanks for confirming my post. 3 paragraphs of bitching and moaning about bitching and moaning. If I upset you so much feel free to ignore me.
Yea probably. And yet still nearly the same amount of points without their QB and half the yards. No concern there for ya? Could that 2022 production be due Utah having to try to score all game last season?
