A team that gets manhandled in the trenches relfects 100% on talent. A team that makes correctable mistakes reflects 100% on coaching. Which one did we see tonight? Who does it reflect on?
Players can be corrected...coaching? CBN is a good man. I like him. Im waiting for him to show up on gamedays and prove why he got this great gig. He is with this team through 2025 at the least.
Was this the first game of the season with kids who have never played before on the field? If it continues game 2 or 3 then I’m with you
Bad comparison as he came one season removed from Tennessee greatest coaches of all time and the team was stocked with talent. Napier came in after 3 years of abysmal recruiting and more then a decade removed (11 years) from one of our greatest coaches in UF history. In that same time frame (11 years since Fulmer)for Tenn you have Jeremy Pruitt who went 5-19. CBN has already surpassed that win total.
It is not about the single play, it is just a symptom of a problem. Not mentioned, or at least I haven't seen it, is the fact no coach called TO on 4th and 1 when we got the delay of game, no one apparently looking at the clock. Then we have 3rd and 1 with an inside zone run and get an illegal formation because we are trying to run a 3 man bunch set with an unbalanced formation that has 0 bearing on the play being run. Complexity for no purpose, costs us a first down and if I recall correctly a missed field goal follows. Call it nitpicking if you want, but those nits cost games when you are against good teams. And yeah if we win, no one cares, but they should. The goal is to improve regardless of win/loss.
I think this was a horrible game for BN. There was a lot of flat out bad crap that was directly coaching. There are so many that it may be easy to overlook the fact that he did not call a play at the end of the 3rd. While it may seem minor in the big scheme of things, I think it sucked. starting to think being intentional is a euphemism for no passion.
Mertz was mediocre. Problem when you can’t run it hurts the RB game and you get sacks. The margin of error becomes so small
That was after the 1st half, the 2md half we only allowed less than 40 yards to Utah. I'd say we had a good half time adjustment on defense.
The premium board clearly has an explanation for two 3s and 8 men on the field. It’s high brow over there
He was 31/44 for 333 yards and a 70% completion rate that's not mediocre. With better pass protection and had the oline not had so many false starts he may have been even better. Not bad for a 1st game on a new team against a top 15 team with a defense Coach Whittingham called one of the best he's ever had.
Maybe Billy needs to be up in the box where lots of OCs call plays from. Try it for one game? Get someone on the sidelines to fire the guys up.
