I agree. We needed this bye week something serious to get healthy on the OL cause I agree, we can forget about being consistently successful on the ground against UGA.
Anyone who thinks Gators fans are any different than any other fanbase that spews nonsense, needs to listen to a few minutes of this.
Agree. Props to the passing game in BN's run oriented scheme. Wilson. K Jackson too, he's fast with great upside. He and Wilson, Pearsall, Boardingham along with the rest of the WR crew are developing into a potent force. Mertz gets better every game. His accuracy is off on occasion and sometimes he throws into too much traffic across the middle where accuracy is paramount. Pearsall is speed, finesse with great hands while Khaliel is a beast and can handle the traffic. Boardingham is turning into all everything. And Wilson, while he's making people miss on short passes, also needs to go vertical more often. Mertz just has to remember to launch the ball early as his arm is not the strongest and he tends to underthrow. Anyway, this WR corps in the Gators improving passing offense can be explosive and keep the defense honest and help out the Gator run game.
Everyone talking about a certain throw at Kentucky And Im sitting here thinking about how the South Carolina game was the catalyst for the 06 championship run. If you don't know, after the SC game in 05, Urban Meyer told everyone to stay on the plane when it got back to Gainesville and addressed the team. He basically said that not everyone was bought in. And it was crap or get off the pot time. Either you're 100% bought in from this point forward, or you're no longer on the team. Its that simple. He proceeded to call out a few players by name and said they and everyone else had to decide right then and there if they were in or out. A few players grabbed their stuff and left the plane and the program, but that 'cleansing' was what many insiders Ive talked to point to as the catalyst for run the team went on from that point into 2006. This felt like a different type of cleansing but one that was needed all the same. This felt like the exorcism of several ghosts that have plagued this team. The road ghost under BN. The QB curse of BN. The ghost of losing seemingly every close game and folding in others. I think everyone, the team, the staff and the fans grew up a bit yesterday. Time will tell if this was the start of something special.
I listened to some, that was a tough loss for the Cock fans. I have a feeling that AA would have gotten some of the heat that Clayton White got, if we wasted UF's strong offensive performance, like USC did. What happened to our rush defense?
I have never doubted that CBN knew what he was doing; and what he had to do it with. I almost, not quite, laughed at an earlier post about 3yards and a cloud of dust. (How about 4 or 5?) So, one dimensional is better? Long, clock eating drives are bad when the opponent has an explosive QB? Wow! I have watched every game, and my impression has been that silly penalties, and missed blocking assignments have been the offense's problem--not the coaching.
Do you think that Eguakun if mostly healthy is a better option than Slaughter now? I am not sure, but I am really looking for the day that Harris or Kearney could be the starter.
Was not able to watch the second half yesterday, but followed on Gamecast and read all of the comments. Just watched now. The Safety at the end was 100% the right play at the end. I think BN either did not know that USC had all of their timeouts before the first snap or was surprised that they were going to extend the game and make them run all the plays. He should not have been. That is what Beamer should have done. 3rd down started with 12 seconds left and ended with 8 seconds left. It looks like we did not send any receivers out and SC had everyone tight. IF Mertz would have rolled out and gotten out of the pocket and threw it as far as he could, you would have wasted another 3 or 4 seconds and you would have never given them the chance at the free punt at the end. I know this is very nitpicky and I am not sure any coach would have done that, so not a shot at all against BN, just something to think about. You really do not even have to get out of the pocket because if they call a penalty for intentional grounding that is ok too. Great win.
That’s hard to say, but we had average running game yesterday. We did most of the damage through the air.
Big Credit to Coach Napier. He’s clearly making changes. His focus on the TE position year is great. Sure helps to have Arlis. I also respect the fact that he and his coaches play guys no matter what year they are in. If you’re playing defense against the gators, you now have to pay attention to three receivers, well, two and the tight end, and you cannot forget our running backs as they both have big-time potential and Etienne is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. Hoping we keep Arlis and Hayden as our top 2 guys next year at TE. I know we are adding Amir, but I honestly see him lining up as WR as much as TE.
