We limited their passing a bit, but once Daniels got to running, our DBs were too busy peeking into the backfield and got caught flat footed. I still think without the threat of the QB run, we had a good chance at the upset.

    The playcaller deems it so.

and that’s on the staff. THEY chose to sit on there hands and not attack the portal this offseason. They brought in Nunnery, Jackson, Banks, and Mitchell. That’s being aggressive in the portal? You bring in average talent in through the portal & rely on youth as well is all on the staff.

how many big time dudes defensively last offseason we went after in the portal?

we complain about no pass rush but ran off Powell who now has 9 sacks at VT. THAT’S ON THE STAFF

I have a feeling that if we don't invent a way to stop the opposing team's QB from running against us in the next game, by next Saturday... we will be in trouble stopping a real running back when we play Missouri next week.

He's liable to run for 400 yards on out defense. You will know his name soon enough.

80s and 90s gators defenses are looking at us and shaking their heads. Never would have thought we would be this bad.

The DC is not the one who:

    1. Missed all the tackles

    2. Who runs at the worst possible angles when chasing anyone who gets open in the secondary

    3. Is just overall slower than most SEC teams in the secondary

We have a lack of talent. It is clear. Our guys play hard, but they are not top tier elite SEC talent, and it does not matter who the coach is at this point. We have to nail this recruiting class.
    talent is the biggest issue.

If you count wins as a metric, it probably won’t be next year with that schedule.

No, but he is the one who:

    1. Teaches tackling

    2. Teaches angles

    3. Should come up with a scheme to give his obviously inferior talent the best possible chance at success.

When you seemingly are not expected to produce results for the first 2 (depending on who you ask, 3 or 4) seasons, this is what you get. Build from the ground up with some duct tape from the portal.

I don't care about the duct tape, I'm starting to have serious concerns about the foundation. And people don't need to reply telling me they are young, I know.

Let’s face it gator fans, we lost this game to the Heisman Trophy winner, hands-down. LSU was good, but their quarterback was outstanding. Most yards gained against the Florida Defense in program history. Let that sink in. Defense is our weakness right now.

If we can hold the recruiting classes together for at least two more years we will be competitive with anyone IMHO.

Then the classes will take care of themselves as we win consistently.

In today’s CFB you can turn it around in 2 years. And that doesn’t mean championships, that means looking competent.

I insist that the whole 3-4 year thing was Stricklin buying himself time and job security. No other reason for that and the ridiculous buyout. No one else was knocking on Napier’s door.

    Arkansas?
    Kentucky?
    Utah?
South Carolina? (Yea we won but talent discrepancy, should have been more)

"Talent" counterpoint is not really accurate. We just aren't good on defense.

I was VERY happy in the first half when BN said he was happy with the team being emotional. We need to play with aggression. Not sure how anyone puts this loss on the offense - “Wilson did not get the ball” at the end? With the dropped slant he illustrated perfectly why he is a great jet sweep guy but not a great WR…. Yet.

This loss was a very young defense: historically terrible LBs, young and below average D line, and very average CBs matched against great WRs. All that gives up 500 yards. The next question is how the he$$ do you give up 700 yards? Cannot quite wrap my head around that level of incompetence even if we started 11 freshman. In the state of Florida with so many athletes I never really conceived we could have such a train wreck of a defense.

I don’t agree with that. We are not talented enough and lack depth on defense. You can blame the coaches for not getting enough able bodies to field a team, but I don't see coaching as the issue. Many times the guys were in place to make a play and whiffed or take a horrible angle like you mentioned.

When you have enough talent, one guy whiffing doesn't blow the
play wide open like you saw tonight. With enough talent and depth, guys are swarming to the ball and one guy whiffing doesn't look as obvious as there are others there to make the play. We are not there yet.

One would think the ginormous staff would have an associate to make sure the best players in a game play and are active in the play calling. I’m being facetious but it is a good question and it’s not the first time it’s been asked this season.

I am pretty sure the DC is staying for at least another year.
