I think Napier's recruiting is a significant upgrade over the last several. It might be the main thing that gets him to 2025. I'm going to hold off on the "spectacular" grade yet, however. Spectacular was Meyer and Zook and Muschamp on D only. We'll see if this current class holds together (and its critical for Napier that it does). He also needs to do better work or be more active in the portal.....whether he likes it or not, its going to be an integral part of talent acquisition going forward.
I don't claim to be an expert. I don't say or think that and I don't put all the blame on players. But I blame coaches more if players don't line up properly or they have too many guys in the field. If these things are happening call à freaking TO if you have one. Talk to the players when they get to the sideline. Teach them properly. I'm sure they teach them how to tackle. It just shows up in games all the time that they don't tackle properly.
But does the scheme the coach is running make it easier on those younger players, or does it make it harder? The scheme can be tweaked to get the ball out faster, get the ball to the receiver in stride, instead of at a stop (i.e. hitches, checkdowns behind the LOS running sideways), not running into a stacked box and playing into the strengths of the opposing defense. I thought last year that when the offense wasn’t adjusted to fit AR’s strengths, that maybe the coaches were trying to go through growing pains that year to prepare for the future. However, year 2 results aren’t looking much better than year 1. I don’t see the coaches putting them in the best position to succeed, similar to the position Leak was put in during the 2005 season before the offense was tweaked to fit his strengths. Do we win a NC in 2006 if the offense wasn’t tweaked in 2005 to fit Leak’s strengths? When we look at the defense this year, the players are being put in a position to succeed on almost every play. They may not make the play, but they are being put in a position where they can. I can live with young players getting outmuscled or outplayed if the scheme is sound. Because that means once the talent and experience level improves, so should the defensive product. But consistently running into an 8 man box with the defense playing run is mind blowing. That isn’t setting your players up for success. And that doesn’t give me hope that that the scheme will improve once the players get more experience.
This is true and I guess our offensive lineman are going to have to block somebody for something to work
They (Michigan) didn't get into what Gator fans would call success until well into his tenure and after he had to take a pay cut. I was just saying that Michigan's schedule is always much easier than ours so comparing win - loss records and rebuild times are not apples to apples comparisons. If you meant that Harbaugh was handed a fully stocked team so he didn't have to rebuild than I offer a mea culpa on that. Also, I wasn't necessarily referring to you about being on the ledge so my bad on that one too.
In fairness, we have a bunch of good Gators that still come to OGTs . . . although many won't come because of the atmosphere you describe. That's too bad and may change. We certainly can tell many of whom will show up the first time something goes bad for Florida but can't seem to remember their log-in for a game like UcheaT. No, wait, they were there but lost their internet suddenly. LOL! Regarding the portal, many times a player is already "committed" BEFORE he hits the portal. It's called poaching and Coach won't play that game. Not nearly every kid but a surprising number if the truth were known. NCAA remains impotent . . .
You're new. This is a very good group of Gators for the most part. Just let folks get to know you and your style.
