I guess last night it didn't matter since the next WR in would have been a DB, but prior to that he shouldn't have been playing if he didn't know the whole playbook and hasn't learned to block effectively.
They are different, but not vastly different. This would be no different than putting your 3rd best OT at OG when one starter goes down because the the 3rd best OT is better than than the 3rd best OG. The positions are different, but not vastly different and that has happened a lot over the years at UF.
We were thin throughout the year. Just look at our depth chart in the first few weeks. Douglas wasn’t even on the three deep. He was starting yesterday. I guess your point is why didn’t Whitt get snaps at X or Z, and that’s a question for the staff. They had him strictly at Y. It’s not like we had much depth at Y either as it was Ricky, Whitt and Bowman (who didn’t look great last week before getting hurt IMO).
We are on the same page IMO. That is the Elephant in the room it seems. I'd like to have an OC so that Billy can focus on why he takes Timeouts at odd times. but in all seriousness, this offense works and you watch it and it scores but you come away every game frustrated knowing that offense is clunky and sloppy, and leaves a ton of points on the field. Damn offense will sputter all day and score 38. What happens if it clicks? I want to see that. I am a Napier fan. I see things coming together but also realize we need more talent all over the field for that team to start clicking. Year 2 should be fun if recruiting finishes strong and we hit the portal to fill holes. We were in every game going into the 4th or later in the 4th this year. Recruits and portal guys see things coming together and see there are opportunities to step in and make big-time contributions on both sides of the ball.
This is the brightest spot I have seen throughout the year. They never quit on any of the games. There is plenty to complain about with regards to the offense, defense, coaching, or QB-play. But the guys played hard every single game. So despite being completely underwhelmed by Billy Napier's coaching this year, I can only see us going up if he can get our players to play that hard every game going forward.
Nobody likes saying it but we mirror the results similar to Bama of 2007. They lost all of their games by 7 points or less and that’s how we were this year (outside of LSU and UGA). I believe we showed better progression defensively when Toney went to more man and brought more pressure but we still can OBVIOUSLY see a talent gap defensively along with defensive IQ. Offensively we lack talent but it’s not evident. To my naked eye, #65 on the OL has been a weak link all season but nothing tooooo glaring. That has been sured up with the commitments of Kearney and Harris where they bring size and toughness. and speaking of size, thats one thing that stands out. We dont look “big” or physical defensively. We dont have many “get off the bus” guys that you can LOOK at and tell he’s HIM.
I don’t remember those defenses being that great. They were fool’s gold with Muschamp’s TOP offense making their yards allowed stats look better than what they showed on the field. I recall many big plays given up.
We need that LB room to get deep. It has been and continues to be a weak spot for the Gators. We got some young ones good experience this year but man we need to recruit and hit that portal. Really could have used Hopper this year.
I like to say it. Many like to rag on the D but is there any doubt that they've improved? Okay, I shouldn't have asked that.
good thing about payday Kamari Shemar McClellon ETN Devin Moore Miguel Mitchell is that they got VALUABLE PT this year as true freshmen and have enough relevant game film to go into the offseason with things they can SEE they need to improve on. Wish we had more blowouts this season to get more true and redshirt freshmen more valuable PT but hopefully we can next season. Wouldnt even be mad if we treated the bowl game like we did the Cotton Bowl vs OU as far as playing the young guys to give them game film to be able to have over the offseason
Holy chit - still? It reminds me of the old Monty Python routine. "They got better". But I wouldn't have ever have said that if we could all agree Gators should have won that game. Vandy has been playing better - that's all I'm saying. If they win today, they still stink... just a lot less.
Agree and think we should all take note - Napier's hand picked guys seem to be the best players on the field. I find that pretty encouraging.
