Billy is a good person maybe too nice...think about the elite coaches in college football and they are not nice people like Saban, Smart, Meyer and even Spurrier was hated by everyone that wasn't a Gator. Being a nice guy doesn't necessarily translate into an elite football coach.
I would, as a coach, expect the OL to hold off the defense for more than a couple seconds. If that play works it opens the defense a little and takes pressure off the inexperienced QB. I’m not a flea flicker fan but if everyone does their job, OL especially, it can be big.
Billy's future IS this class and, maybe to a greater extent, the portal this off-season. There's nothing else positive to really look at right now.
I will re-iterate my preseason comments. Napier will enter 2024 as the UF football coach. Whether or not he finishes 2024 as the UF football coach is entirely up to him. 5-7 record, no bowl game, 5-game losing streak to end the year, horrendous record against rivals. Worst of all is that all his catchphrases and one-liners have proven to be nothing more than lip service. “Scared money don’t make money” my ass. He coaches not to lose, just like Muschamp. Just like Zook. We know from experience this DOES NOT work at UF. So what’s been the point of the past two seasons with him as OC? Letting him have his time in the play pen with some toys and PlayDough? Do not for one second believe that he will hire an OC which is nothing more than a yes man puppet. So on to 2024. He will be on the sidelines come August. No more preaching patience. No more talking about the process. The goorwill he has with Gator Nation is based on him landing top recruiting classes loaded with elite talent. Fail to land a top class in 24 and most of the fanbase will turn on you. He enters 2024 on an ultra sizzling hot seat for the reasons stated above. Gator Nation is on Defcon 2, about to take it to Defcon 1. I don’t see anything in the previous two years of work that leads me to believe he can turn it around in year 3. Our record may improve slightly, and that will make Napier be around 0.500 after 3 seasons. We fired Zook, Muschamp, McElwain, and Mullen for less. Why would we then allow Napier to have year 4? Entirely on his shoulders. Good luck, coach. You will need it.
Another record we haven't seen in many decades is 5 straight losses - the last time we lost 5 in a row was way back in 1979.
It has been a tough season, but I do believe we are really close to being a very good team. All we need are some experienced and talented OGs, OTs, DTs, DEs, LBs, DBs, WRs, and QB, as well as a whole new offensive scheme, an offensive coordinator, and a dedicated special teams coach. We could possibly upgrade at defensive coordinator too and maybe a new strength and conditioning coach, but we might be ok there. Our recruiting is really good. Currently have a top 5 class. I could see us finishing in the top 25 easily. Things are looking up.
Literally every coach says the same coachspeak all the time. How are you guys always crying about it?
Makes me wonder what the posters who say he learns and adapts what they are seeing that I'm not. We do the same things that lead to losses over and over and over again.
All we need is experience and talent at every position, a new scheme and new coaches? Is this really good satire or?
I disagree a bit. Tackles still suck but I saw overall improvement with the defense. I was proud of them tonight, were just not capable of a defensive YF sadly.
At least you are consistent. I am amused by the same people who simultaneously cry about turtling and calling aggressive plays.
