Oh how I long for the halcyon days of the mid 40’s. I was quite young then but clearly remember our sterling football team; one year, we went 6-5 and was even invited to the Southern Pecan Bowl in the historic Georgia tri-city Adel, Sparks, Hahira region. Too bad we lost to a great South Dakota Polytechnic team that finished second in the Snow Conference. It was a great era in UF football history.
It is really puzzling to think about how committed he seems to showing he can be an offensive play caller. I don’t know what kind of psychological things are going on whether he still laments being fired by Clemson in the only stint he ever had calling plays when he wasn’t also head coach or the fact that he sees Steve Spurrier in the building and thinks he needs to be able to measure up. Needless to say he needs to be a lot more concerned with winning than proving how good of a play caller he is.
FSU has a better roster and much more depth. They would beat us 10 out of 10 times at a neutral site even if we had Saban.
Mullen was a jerk and not a QB Whisperer. Trask and Franks were Mac's recruits and even then, EJ was his QB until he was forced to use Franks. When Franks never got better and got hurt, Trask comes in and shows how good he was. Yet, Franks got the job back because Mullen said so. It took yet another Franks injury to finally get Trask the job. Trask was always good, just was never given a chance until Mullen was forced. Even so, Mullen wanted EJ as his main man and was set to hand things over to EJ until we fired his butt. AR was about to head to the portal too. The 4th overall pick would have transferred out because Mullen though EJ was better.
We win last night by 20 with Spurrier calling plays. If they put 8 in the box and crashed the safeties all game Spurrier would have designed plays to turn that into a td every drive even with an offensive lineman as QB. We did nothing but run the same set over and over. I think the double reverse fiasco may have brought out the game long Billy turtle when it blew up in his face.
Why are people saying BN needs to hire an OL coach? We have two of them now. So he should hire a third one, or the two we have should both be fired? And on the repeated statement that an OC should be hired, we have an OC. If the one we have should be fired, just say it.
I was telling my wife during the game what John Wooden would do if one of his players kept making stupid mistakes; he would sit on the bench for however long it took. The bench = the great motivator
Wow...thats laughable..they got dominated for a half and then went into the 4th behind. With their officials though you may be right...they weren't going to let us win.
with Travis Rudolph & no Graham Mertz - semi rout. with Graham Mertz & no Travis Rudolph - Gators win by 2 scores. with both out - see last night. Some point to the other sideline and Mike Norvell as the model to follow, be patient, the wins will come. Well he won 10 games in his 3rd season, 13 and counting in his 4th. I’m prepared to bet the farm against that right now, no chance, imho. This from a charter member of the Billy Club too.
Florida can insist all they want but they do not have the leverage to. Unless they are hiring an out of work coach, everyone else that Florida is interested in has a job and can dictate terms.
Yes, if their stud qb was healthy and playing. He'll no, with their second qb. I thought this was abundantly clear in the first quarter and a half last night. What transpired afterwards, was a text book case study in coaching incompetence. I held my tongue all damn Season. Patiently waiting for signs of hope. Battling in the real world with real Gators, defending CBN and his abysmal and undeniable lack of understanding of the game... Last night the clock struck midnight. Grades are in, no longer pending. Verdict rendered... .... bc last night, the PLAYERS proved the talent level was there (despite multiple injuries) to beat a solid team...but the incompetent coaching that I've been trying to deny for 2 years, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Yet again. ....and just a reminder--CBN is getting paid like a PROFESSIONAL coach. MORE THAN SEVEN (7) MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR. THAT is the standard against which his PERFORMANCE is measured. He's scoring about a D+ over 2 years. Giving us little more than more @$%^@n excuses, for crap results.
UF outgained FSU (even if only by a little), only lost 1 total turnover, and was at home at night and lost by 9 points.
The crowd was in a frenzy after the safety and then the first big hit was that bonehead ridiculous double-handoff, end-around fiasco. Then when FSU gets the ball back the "Spit" did us in. This team is made up of a bunch of kids. They are emotional, immature and undisciplined. The outcome of this game would come down to who could maintain composure and keep playing and this team does not have the composure part yet. Stupid mental immature mistakes did us in. Targeting on the QB at the most crucial part of the game. I was thinking is there any way we could be more creative in finding ways to lose. The better team won last night, no doubt. However, I see hope for the future. Billy has his work cut out or him. He needs to find leadership and instill discipline. From what we have seen this season that is going to be difficult but I think he can do it. I will be thinking of that spit for a long time just like whenever I remember the shoe being thrown. I get sick to my stomach! Glad the season is over and we can focus on next year. Come on Billy, build this team like we know you can. We are proud Gators and we want to see a team that is also proud to be Gators!!!
I'm not sure if any of the players BN got last year through the portal were top tier. And even if they were, the lack of coaching them up to be dominant is non-existent.
I'm critical of Napier and he has put himself in a position where year 3 has to be a big jump regardless of schedule but how many people would have said this after Norvells 2nd year? Fact is fsu is a junior and senior laden team that struggled to beat our injury depleted and below average team. Be critical of Napier (constructively) but the Norvell praise is laughable. He's a solid coach. I said that when others scoffed at his hiring. They have had and needed every break possible with the only exception being the injury to Travis. We were down how many players from an already thin team before the injuries in game and people want to act like fsu is a juggernaut? Good team. Would take their season in a heartbeat obviously but pump the brakes...
The sun will come up, although ironically, right now in Gainesville, it’s raining, and our young defense did a great job yesterday
If so then Napier’s evaluation of the 2022 and 2023 classes plus the transfer portal has been wrong. Napier’s only goodwill with Gator Nation is recruiting.
