After the BIG win today, and with @aka being at the game, we'll rely on Nick Marcinko's paraphrased post game report: Myreon Jones, Kyle Lofton, and Colin Castleton there. Castleton said they have nothing but respect for Mike White. He said it feels good to win a basketball game. Lofton said they were getting the shots they wanted in the first half, they just weren't falling. They started falling as the game went on. They put an emphasis on playing good defense down the stretch. Jones said the coaches told him stop thinking about his shot and just shoot it. He was 3-4 from deep today. Castleton said he got caught in the mouth. He's not sure exactly what happened. He said that's what happens when you try to protect the rim. He said he's all good. Lofton said this game is definitely a confidence booster. They are hopeful to carry this on and win the next couple SEC games. Castleton said being a rim protector helps everyone out, being able to push the floor after the block is key.
Coach Golden (paraphrased) according to Nick: Golden says certain guys came off the bench to lift the defensive intensity early in the game. Golden says they didn't rebound well, they will look at that moving forward. Golden says he's really proud of his guys, they've asked a lot out of them recently. Golden said Georgia made really tough contested shots to keep them in the game. Golden says you can expect them to make some of them, but it felt like they were making all of them. Golden says he's happy for Castleton. He's done a lot in practice in terms of effort. Golden says Lofton hasn't played great every game, but he did tonight. Golden says Lofton will be in the 28-32 minutes range every game. Logged 32 minutes tonight. Golden says he keeps Florida organized and does well in a ball handling role. Golden says for a lot of freshmen, it takes time. He said a lot of pressure it put on them to play really well, but that's not always reality. Golden says over the last week Riley Kugel has taken a step forward. Golden said he did a good job bothering Roberts tonight. He said he had a heady back cut that led to a dunk. They knew they were going to give him good minutes today, he's earned it. Golden says something we will learn about him is he is a rewarding coach. If you earn it in practice, you will be rewarded. He says Kugel earned his 16 minutes. Golden said Georgia was banging every shot, but they didn't let that break them. That's what he's most proud of. Golden said Jones looked really confident out there, and he wasn't playing scared. He's hoping he'll get in a rhythm over the next few SEC games.
CC caught an elbow from a Georgia player going to the rim trying to get some distance. It was an obvious elbow being thrown and should have been a Flagrant 2. Why do we have video review when something like that isn't called?
I agree. I said it live in the OGT. NOBODY throws an elbow shooting a lay-up. The refs reviewed it and claimed it was a "basketball move" but it was just dirty.
I think they reviewed it, the refs felt it was just playing ball, not a foul or flagrant, I was waiting for their call after the play, it took a couple of minutes, I was not happy. This call was made shortly after CC fighting for a rebound was almost called for a elbow to the defender, but it wasn’t and they made the right call. The thrown elbow the Georgia guard threw was a flagrant 2 but being right after they sided a tough call for us, was too much for these refs.
CC was making a basketball play to change sides with the ball and had his arms in. The Georgia player clearly threw his elbow out. It wasn't the same thing.
it was a makeup call, because the refs felt like they gifted CC. P.S. I never said it was the same type foul, I agree CC basketball play was not the same as the Georgia guard throwing out his elbow. The refs obviously felt that they should let the elbow go as a basketball play, probably a make -up call. I didn’t agree, but I was watching on TV. Just my opinion.
It looked like Dawg guard an CC were tangled up and he was trying to push CC out of his space after being fouled in the air. Nothing flagrant enough to change the call.
Your orange and blue glasses are distorting reality. Castleton obviously fouled the Leghumper's elbow with his mouth.
"Golden says something we will learn about him is he is a rewarding coach. If you earn it in practice, you will be rewarded." Guess that answers the Lane mystery. If Kuegel starts showing what @tampajack1 said preseason, it will really benefit this team, especially CC. What impressed me was Kuegel's defense. Very active. Looks like Reeves is also playing committed defense.
