The 2022 squad did have some talent. However, there was not enough talent to compete with mid level to upper level tier teams.

The prior three or four season had way too many portal exits versus portal entries.
42 players left via the Portal and 22 came in via the Portal. The annual Gator signee classes did not fill in the vacancies that were created.

As a result, the 2022 Gator Roster of 124 players had a lot of holes in it.
55 of those players were Freshmen (27 were Redshirts).
42 were Sophomores (21 were Redshirts).
17 were Juniors (10 were Redshirts).
9 were Seniors (5 were Redshirts).
46 players were on Defense. 64 were on Offense (others were special teams)
Less than 50 were teammates together for two seasons

At a high level view, the 2022 Gators were a team that was thin on talent, experience, and familiarity (team work with in the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams). In other words, a lot work is/was going to be needed to fix the above mentioned issues.

Anyone that was expecting a quick fix by Napier had unrealistic expectations.

 

He would have had an elite year. He did it quickly at every college stop.

But I can guarantee you Mac, Muschamp, and Mullen would not have won a title if they followed Zook
