this. Harris is not gonna be seen as much of an alternative to Biden. She’s gonna have the same-same stink
Candidate is the kindest and most generous description one can conjure for Biden. And it evidently doesn’t take election stealing masterminds to get the votes of the tragically uninformed or intentionally naive Democratic voting blocs.
You can bet on this. Right now the odds are 62% that Joe's getting out. Polymarket | Biden drops out of presidential race? Polymarket | Biden drops out of presidential race? Also Biden and Harris are both at 40% if you want to bet on who will be the Democrat nominee.
I don’t think Joe will voluntarily withdraw. If he was in his right mind, maybe. His bigger concern should be the machine and what it’s capable of at this point. We’re watching the unfolding of one of the biggest political scandals in American history.
If not joe, it will be Harris, dems have zero choice at this point. https://www.axios.com/2024/07/04/kamala-harris-replace-biden-2024-election
Dems best shot is to coalesce quickly around Harris. No convention drama, really no drama about Harris at all. Agree on her and hope for the best. She is not their best candidate obviously, but she would give them a puncher's chance and at the very least, she wouldn't hurt Dems as much down ballot. That's going to be the big problem for Biden. Congress is convening early next week to discuss pushing him out. I still can't get over the fact that Biden's inner circle think that even with the media openly reporting Democrats in Congress are convening to discuss a strategy to push him out of office that he still has a chance to win over the public. Maybe...maybe...it's all a facade to make it look like he didn't go down without a fight (to protect his legacy in some weird sort of way) and a week from now we'll all be talking about Kamala's chances to beat Trump. Jill Biden may be delusional, but I can't believe his advisors are this delusional.
You guys crack me up thinking everything is orchestrated. i assume it’s for entertainment. Joe had a bad debate after the party determined, like every party does, not to challenge its incumbent. Buyers remorse is on the democrats now unlike the Republicans who love the mud and shit mix of Trump. I have tons more respect for the Democratic Party now regardless of whether Biden steps down or not for at least having the unprecedented discussion.
Where was this type of discussion in 2020 from the Republicans when their guy tried to overthrow the government? I mean, it’s not as bad as underperforming in a debate I guess.
Because nothing merits respect like going “oh shit, there’s no way this guy can win, what are we gonna do.”
They are only having the discussion to save their own hind quarters. And yes a lot of discussion was had on the right. Unfortunately not by enough people and so far the same can be said about the left.
That’s unfair. The Democratic Party’s goal is to put up an electable candidate that represents their platform and values. Biden isnt Obama but he does represent a centrist version of their platform and certainly doesnt assault their values. His crime was a bad debate performance and the ever present inability to communicate well. And as you know well, Trump’s crime was trying to undo democracy. Biden lost more support with a bad debate than Trump lost who was found culpable for rape, guilty of fraud, and live on TV tried to overturn the election, not to mention his outright theft of documents. But, Biden did have a bad debate.
If it somehow is Harris as nominee I'd be curious if she does well, or poorly, with the spotlight. I think she's a relatively unknown quantity to the vast majority of the public at this point. MAGA isn't voting for her and will tear her down no matter what. But maybe she does well with others given the chance. But the Dem party absolutely cannot pass her up for a different candidate. That would be suicide.
Hilarious. The democrats seem to care about whether Biden reflects the platform and values of the Democratic Party and is he electable. All the Republicans care about is whether Trump is electable. That’s it. Nothing else. Unless you feel good that Trump reflects the values and platform of the republicans your snip is pointless. Varying Treatment of Biden and Trump Puts Their Parties in Stark Relief One of America’s political parties has a presidential candidate who is really old and showing it. The other has a presidential candidate who is a convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, business fraudster and self-described aspiring dictator for a day. And also really old. One of the parties is up in arms about its nominee and trying to figure out how to replace him at the last minute. The other is not. The spectacle of the week since the nationally televised debatebetween President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump has thrown into sharp relief two political parties that agreed to be led by flawed putative nominees whose vulnerabilities have become even more painfully apparent just months before the election. But the distinction of recent weeks has been striking. After Mr. Trump was found guilty of 34 felonies by a Manhattan jury in May — a verdict that came after civil judgments against him for personal and professional misdeeds — there was no significant groundswell within the Republican Party to force him out of the race in favor of a less-tainted candidate. Even though many Republican officeholders and strategists privately loathe him, they fell in line and made clear they would stick with him no matter how many scandals piled up.
I mean, yes, but I do think city is making a more nuanced point in comparison to how Trump is treated by the right. Can you imagine a scenario where the right abandons him at this point? Short of a videotaped murder, I cannot. Jonah Goldberg makes a related point here, that the left rallying around Biden now is similar to the right rallying around Trump in 2016. People with American principles shouldn’t be doing either. At least it’s possible that many on the left are actually trying to resist. “The rhetorical wagon-circling consists of a few interchangeable talking points. “Bad debate nights happen,” Barack Obama declared. The Biden family “will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president,” first lady Jill Biden told Vogue. “We will continue to fight.” The gist of all of this is that the president’s performance last week was just a snapshot, an isolated incident. That’s all nonsense. Familiar nonsense. For years, whenever Donald Trump put his unfitness on display, his defenders would say it was a stray remark, a one-time event. You have to judge him in context. He’s a good man. He’s fighting for you. In short, they would say all the things Biden’s partisan Praetorian Guard is saying now. But they were isolated events in the way that the frames of a film are when you look at them one at a time. Roll the film, and you see the man in action. Biden’s bad 90 minutes weren’t a one-off; they were an example of a longstanding problem that, disastrously, was televised for all of America to see.”
The libbies are resisting only because they fear losing the election. Let’s not make it any more than that.
Only bc the polls were showing murica's displeasure with Doh! Biden's shit bucket chicom policies. They'da propped weekend a berny's right past the finish line and continued to "don't believe your lying eyes" routine with gusto, had drool'n Doh! been holding serve at the polls.
